STP is coming to my town in October. Has anyone seen them recently? Are they worth $50? I love some of their tunes but I've never heard how they are live. Thx.

I've seen them twice in toronto, honestly big disappointment! Scott Weiland is a great stage performer, but I think it's hit or miss.. all depends on how many drugs he's taken before he hits the stage. On the other hand might not be a bad idea to see him while he's still alive, no pun intended!

  • I saw them last year in Vancouver. It was an alright show, but very predictible, they played their hits then walked off stage. Generally not a great vibe or much interaction with the crowd, it was nothing like a Pearl Jam show.
Still might be worth the $50, you should go and let us know what you think.

  • I've seen Velvet Revolver once and STP twice and it 100% is a crapshoot based on how Weiland feels.

I saw STP last year and it was an amazing show. I've been a big fan of STP for years and never had a chance to see them so when they came to town I was very excited for the show. I wasn't disappointed, really really amazing performance! I've only seen them the one time and I know people say they are hit or miss but the show I saw was worth the money, and I'd see them again in a heart beat. Hope that helps.

  • See them, Scott sounded great in July, his voice is back to normal and he is totally clean. He was a hit and miss in 2008 but trust me the July 2009 tour was great and on this upcoming tour I'm sure they'll debut a new song or two.

I saw them twice around 1999 and 2002(3?) and they were awesome! but i would doubt they are anything like that anymore. however, they are coming to Fla soon too, and i will probably try to catch them.

one more thing to mention is that the STP show I saw last year was really really trippy. They used a lot of various lighting effects and smoke depending on the song which really added to the experience. A good example of this was when they played Vasoline. The entire song was played in darkness with just one small blue light shining on Scott and they pumped tons of smoke onto the stage. During the song the band members were coming in and out of the smoke and into the blue light, it was fucking cool looking. They did a really awesome job with their stage show.

They were AMAZING when I saw them. Potentially a Top 5 show. Probably the best show I've ever seen outside of the ones from my absolute fave bands(PJ, Page/Plant, David Gilmour, PJ, Black Crowes). The VR show I seen was slightly more enjoyable. As many have said, as Weiland goes, so do his backing bands.

I saw them last year and they burn down the house, 100% recommended!

  • I saw them in 96 or 97 and it was an amazing live show. Scott was all over the stage and sounded great. The band sounded great and it was back when they would drop down a second stage for an all acoustic set - amazing. Saw them again in 08 and it was pretty much the same show without the acoustic set - which was amazing. They haven't lost a thing... as long as Scott stays clean (I guess I would include all the members there, but Scott is the one with the problem).

  • Saw them about four times before they broke up, and they were phenomenal. Saw them twice since the reunion, and they are mediocre if Scott is having a good night. They've lost a step since getting back together. I wouldn't pass them up if they were coming to my town....but I would travel to see them anymore.

I saw STP back in the Purple days and they killed it. Thinking about going to see them on their upcoming tour, but kind of broke right now

They are an awesome live band. Sure the setlist/length of the show is not anything like PJ does it, but they do put on a great performance. Even when Scott's not at his best, the rest of the guys always sound incredible.

If I could see them on any tour, that would be the one.

My sis saw Tool on the Aenima tour, and Soundgarden on the Superunknown tour... I was born just a bit too late. :(

  • you can pretty much just play their greatest hits album really loud and that's what they'll sound like live.

Seen STP twice. Great shows each time I saw them. It has been almost 10 years since I last saw them so can't say how todays STP performances will be.
  • I saw them last year and they rocked it. It was a flat out crowd-pleaser show, but seeing as they haven't really done much recently, it was expected. The whole band sounded good, but they kept digressing into these weird, free form jazz interludes. At one point we realized he was 'covering' (for lack of a better word) Redemption Song - which he sang, no joke, as "Demption Song"... Apart from that they sounded really good.

with a new album coming out in the fall, I bet they will be playing some new stuff as well

  • nothing unique about their live show but scott sounded good and had some great drug induced dance moves the one time i saw them and they played all the hits... definitely pretty cheesy though as far as stage effects/lighting

i would recommend it to anyone thats a fan... especially if they start busting out some new material on this tour
