i really would love to have the Backspacer vinyl in my collection but i'm also keen on having it in the car, on my iPod, etc. i really wish PJ would include a digital download copy with the vinyl.
I wish they would include digital copies with all their vinyl releases (including Christmas single).
The collector in me buys the vinyl, but i don't even own a record player.
Shows: Montreal 98, Barrie 98, Montreal 00, Montreal 03, Montreal 05, Ottawa 05, Toronto 06, Vancouver Night 1 08 (EV), Vancouver Night 2 08 (EV), MSG1 08, MSG2 08, Montreal Night 2 08 (EV), Toronto Night 1 08 (EV), Toronto 09, Hartford 11 (EV), Ottawa 11, Ottawa 16, Ottawa 22.
I'm not sure it won't. Almost every new LP I see for sale says it includes a digital copy. Dischord et al.
I believed this for a while... but am finding it less and less true. Ben Harper's new record didn't. The Black Crowes didn't. Those are only two examples off the top of my head, but it's definitely not standard.
So my question is... if you buy a vinyl copy that doesn't offer a digital one, should you feel guilty about downloading it via bit torrent? You did pay for it once...

i will be purchasing through my local record store. i'll check out the vinyl version first, if there's no indication of an accompanying download code i'll likely walk out with the CD copy.
yeah, vinyl with download codes is the best way to get music. but it's hit and miss - a lot of the subpop releases i've bought on vinyl lately come with download codes, but some haven't. and, sometimes you get a cd with the vinyl too, like someone mentioned, but this seems to be pretty rare...
i personally DO NOT expect the vinyl backspacer to come with any digital downloads - nothing we've seen has said it would, and i think they'd be advertising that.

Seriously?
Absolutely not!
As an owner of a legit copy in any format, you are entitled to digital "backup" verisons regardless of the legality of the source.

Yeah, dl codes are few and far between. Maybe 25% have a code OR the cd.
All of MMJ's releases come with a cd. Several of the "BackToBlack" vinyl reissues have em as well, but not all, which I thought was strange.

I work in legal with a particular focus on copyright. Your response isn't entirely correct. While it is true you are allowed a digital "backup" it is only a backup you create yourself, not one you obtain from another source. If you bought the cd, then you are allowed to rip a backup using iTunes or other software. If you buy the vinyl, you can create a digital copy from that vinyl, if you have the means, but you are not allowed to download it from another source. The source of your backup must be from the copy you purchased.
