cali folks- a little help?

im trying to go to the 4th la show from san diego. i wanna leave SD in the morning, spend a few hours in la, hit up the show and then head back to SD after the show.

what's my best bet (read- cheapeast option) as far as a bus or a train. i checked some prices and it looks like it may be easiest to just rent a car for the day.

any help would be appreciated.
i have a paper here that entitles me to fast track status

    Rent the car, you'll have a lot more flexibility and comfort with it.
