Now that I have your attention, how long is frozen steak good for? I froze a couple of steaks Feb 21 of this year ( I wrote the date) and am now desperate enough to eat it. I've looked all over the web and advice ranges from 2 months to 1 year. So I figure I'd come here and ask the real experts.

Also, if it is edible, what's the best way to defrost it?

  • lol, personally it all has to do with the look of the meat, if its got the flaky ice on it, it is slighty freezer burnt, it its got solid ice on it, then its even worse. but health and disease wise, if its frozen just once then it is ok whenever you decide to thaw

Should be ok provided you don't have too much freezer burn. .....As for defrosting best bet is in the fridge provided you have the time. If not leave it on the counter ......do not use a microwave you can fuck up a good steak real easy that way!

It's really not safe to thaw any meat product on the counter. Either thaw it out in the fridge or if you want to defrost it relatively quickly, place it in a sink of COLD water. Change out the water every half hour :D

Not to sound rude, but I've never gotten the point of a meatless burger. It couldn't possibly taste anything like a burger.
    Thanks EPOTTSIII!

  • I'm a professional chef (by title, anyway, and I've been doing it for 8 years). If it's been frozen since February, and that was the first time it was frozen, it probably won't kill you. Can't say it'll taste the best, but if you're desperate... I've eaten scarier things, and I'm still here.

Veggie burgers are great in a bun, great for bbq's, in fact anytime really. Meaty taste, no I like the ones that don't really taste meaty. Mushroom burgers are good. Also a burger shape is really easy to make if you're making them yourself. We get quorn burgers here, which I can't remember exactly but I think they're a kind of fungus, they're not meaty and are great for a something quick. There are burgers out there impersonating meat, but generally they're pretty foul.
