Alpine Valley: Time to take a new approach

After over 6 years of campaigning to get our band back to one of the greatest outdoor venues in the Midwest, I think it may be time for a fresh approach. Ed's comments at the United Center solidified the bands desire to play there again but for numerous reasons, little progress has been made. It seems obvious that contract details between Clear Channel and Curtis Management have been difficult to say the least. We need to get letters out to both the venue and Clear Channel to make it known that this is an act they do not want to keep passing on year after year. I have sent numerous letters to both and have left messages with Dave Shaw, the general manager of Alpine. Not surprisingly, I have heard little back other then a response from Alpine saying they would be "interested in hosting Pearl Jam again if the opportunity presented itself." It seem the opportunity did present itself, but terms could not reach a compromise. Please call Dave Shaw at 262-642-4400 and/or email Clear Channel so we can have this materialize into something substantial for a possible return to the states in 2010.

  • Dave is usually very easy to reach on the phone. I have made a call every year since 2005 asking about PJ playing Alpine. Usually the same answer that they would love to have PJ play there but that's all I get. I hope more call and write so we get PJ to play Alpine next year. Nice thread btw. :D
  • damn it, Dave...what's your problem?

Isn't it Live Nation that owns them not Clear Channel as it was spun off a while ago?
I had season tickets at Alpine for a few years. I was told the issue is they also own Tinley Park and Northerly Island facilities. They have to fill those other places first before Alpine and only a few artists have the following to fill the place to make concerts there break even. Honestly, I don't know Pearl Jam could fill Alpine unless it was a one off only Chicago area show or unless they did a co-headline show. The last one there with the Buzz Cocks had less capacity then Ozzfest. In fact most of the grass area was empty? Sorry to be a buzz kill but thats what my season ticket sales guy told me after promising PJ there for quite a few years and it didn't happen. It got to the point where Live Nation wouldn't even confirm a number of show in a season. Beautiful facility wasted. Untied Center sucks ass. How about a Wrigley performance instead. That would be sweet!

I would bet Alpine is going to be played on the 2010 tour
...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...
  • clear channel fucking sucks and should be destroyed. that is all.
  • first of all Clear Channel is no longer around . the company is now called Live Nation.

It has nothing to do with a relationship with Curtis Mgmt and Live Nation, they are the bands management, not their booking agent.

Live Nation produces the majority of the bands shows.

The band prefers indoor venues as opposed to sheds. deal with it
  • I don't think there was a conflict with management getting a contract. I think it was simply logistics. Alpine only books shows on weekends. Also, I was at the show in 03 and that lawn was pretty packed. If it wasn't sold out then it was pretty close. Alpine is the second largest outdoor amphitheatre in the country. Typically once they sell 35,000 tickets they stop and call it sold out. However, they have in the past sold 40,000 tickets before calling it sold out. The 1998 shows had 40,000.

Yeah, this had nothing to do with a conflict with management. The weekends that PJ wanted were prob booked or it just didnt fit into the schedule that they already had. I'm thinking PJ will play there next spring/summer.
