Atlanta '94/Dissident release sound quality vs newer stuff

Am I alone in thinking that the Atlanta 94 show that was released as the 3 CD digipak sounds far better than any of the official bootlegs that have been released? Possibly a little bit too much bass, but on the whole it sounds a lot clearer, (more of a live in-studio sound than anything else.)

I assume the recording was taken straight from the recording desk as is the case for all boots starting from the 2000 tour?

Just thought I'd throw the question out there.

Personally, I almost always prefer the old soundboard recordings to the post 2000 stuff. Some people say that they like to hear the audience but I could care less. If I wanted to hear a bunch of crazys* yell I'd spend 30 seconds in a Wal-Mart.

I think the old soundboard recordings provided much better tone in the guitars.

*said w/ love ;) . recently, for two nights, I was a crazy yeller in Chicago.

  • yeah..most everything from the sound board will be good quality. It helps when the person running the soundboard thinks about the fact that there is a bootleg being made....

there is definitely some variability with some of the shows I have that were recorded from sound board from 1996 and newer...
  • The old recordings may sound cleaner but there's no way in hell those are straight soundboard mixes. The mix for the house would sound awful on a recording. I'm sure the band has always hand a secondary board for their recordings.
    So this life is sacrifice...

I sort of think the radio broadcast recording of Atlanta 94 is better than the Dissident singles. The soundboard is third.
