Back in the day I always thought it was '(ex)scuse my t-shirt' like someone was taking his picture and his t-shirt had something inappropriate on it.

I'm sorry (or maybe I'm not) ... but this made me laugh my ass off.

When he talks about tincture and spilling his tincture he is talking about losing what makes him who he is. What give him his 'special characteristic' like when you give something a tint. As someone else mentioned the song is about fame - people trying to be Eddie by wearing the same clothes etc. what make him unique is being lost or spilt.

I think this is pretty good.

If somethings plain, you gotta put a little tincture on it

Best fucking thread in weeks!!! This goes to show you what a good song Corduroy is. 15 years later and the lyrics are still up for good conversation. Cheers to the staying power of Vitalogy!!

Another thing about Corduroy's lyrics I've never understood...how can anyone make out the last lines of the song? I've seen and heard numerous sources that say that Ed says "It's your move now. I thought you were a friend but I guess I...I guess I hate you." Maybe someone had software that separated the vocals from the mix? I'd love to hear them sans music sometime.
Ed...buddy...pal...stay true to your word and play Boise again.

In fact I haven't listened to Vitology in ages so whilst decorating yesterday I put it on. Jiggled about a lot at the top of my ladder then when it got to 'spilled my tincture', laughed a lot, the paint brush flew out of my hand and landed on the carpet. Now have white paint on a blue carpet, does that mean I have experienced the spilling of tincture?

    :D

All the alternate lyrics posted here read like a Weird Al Yankovich song.... Very entertaining.

iTunes has the Bridge School slow acoustic version that's very clear....

... but I'm at work and don't have it at hand.
I thought it was present tense though, commanding, go ahead, "spill my tincture"

But I do luv this thread! The Blood, the essence of Ed and what not is ... DEEP!
    [sic] happens
