That's the one I watched! Remember when she was saving the seeds from the pumpkin "I'm gonna keep a few, that was an odd pumpkin"
And the sludge that was in the Fridge drawers!
the sludge...ugh!! and then she still wanted to keep some of the packaged food that was floating around in that grossness. it made me a little bit sad to watch :(
I figured this thread was going to be about people who won't open vinyl or "break" the spine of their DEEP magazines.

i saw most of an episode of one of these....it had 3 people (well, 2 people and 1 couple), 1 guy hadn't been able to use his kitchen or take a shower for a few years because he had so much junk shoved in those rooms!
i liked when the old mom drove off and left her son because he wouldn't let her take a lamp on the side of the road

i saw that one too - I can't believe people live like that or have families that let them live like that
I too saw the episode with the lamp....it made me laugh.
I think hoarding is a mental disorder/chemical embalance. What a hell it must be for these people and their families.
I believe there is a medication for this disorder, but most hoarders are helpless when it come to letting go....
It's a manifestation of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. There are pharmacological and therapeutic treatments, but yes, such severe cases of OCD are usually quite intractable.
It is hellish. I've worked with several OCD and hoarding clients. There's a very digestible book, Compulsive Acts: A Psychiatrist's Tales of Ritual and Obsession by Elias Aboujaoude, that gives good insight into a number of obsessions and compulsions through vignettes of certain patients.

That was probably the sickest shit I've ever seen. My ex girlfriend's mom is a hoarder. She would go to every grocery store that had a sale going on and buy tons of food and she lived by herself. She is no where near as bad as that woman but,IMO she's on her way.
nicole and i are sitting down on this friday night to check out the first two episodes i downloaded! i am a pack rat myself when it comes to certain things, but this show looks crazy. i saw one add for it and it appealed to me, so i came home and DL'd it. cant wait to see it.

A good friend's mother is a hoarder. She lives in a 6 bedrooom, multi-million dollar house by herself. She has over a thousand dolls of all shapes and sizes filling the bedrooms. Walk around there on shrooms and you'll never do them again.
The fact that this stuff is a TV show is kinda sick. These people obviously need help.

That's was pretty damn disgusting. And too funny when she wanted to save the seeds because it was odd~!!!!
So I'll just lie down and wait for the dream Where I'm not ugly and you're lookin' at me
There was an older lady that came to the gym where I used to work out....she hoarded papers, magazines, books and various things in her car....it was a Taurus wagon.....there was just enough space for her to sit in the driver's seat.....the rest of the car was crammed with shit...I'm surprised that she could safely pack up in that thing.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.
I admit, I watch Intervention, Obsessed and now Hoarders. I truly feel sad for these people because I know it looks easy to care of , but these people have such mental/emotional connections to these "things."
Like that one guy (can't remember his name) he was holding on to old magazine subscription renewals in his mother's name, because she was alive at the time they were received.
This definitely helps me think twice before I save something. I'm always saving things I could use in the future (and never do) or things that remind me of my past (that are not necessary). Like Pearl Jam says" it makes much more sense, to live, in the present tense.
