SHORT SONGS Backspacer -vs-

To the people who have posted that Backspacers songs are short (3 to almost 4 minutes per song) or that Backspacer over all is a short Cd ( which isn't chock full of ARC/I'm Open or other sort of throw offs to some, not me)..that could have added a song or two (my opinion), but it is what it is at this time.....

here are some of the other so called short songs in Pearl Jam list..

no Lukin? the fast punky sounding songs shouldnt be long anyway. Plus i doubt Eddie's voice could hold up if they were.

lukin is one of my favs. how did you forget that on your list? how long is corduroy? it can't be too much over 4min, but i'm too lazy to look it up.

oh, and i've been trying to convince my wife for 14 years that short things are good.

The songs are pretty average length for Pearl Jam songs. There's just only 11 songs. Add two or three songs and a hidden track like every other Pearl Jam album and the album would easily be 45+ minutes.

Its less of a song length issue as it is a quantity issue. Remove any random four songs from Riot Act, the longest album and its about the same length as Backspacer.

I still can't believe that Pearl Jam has never made a long, "epic" track like Metallica or Led Zeppelin used to do. The longest Pearl Jam song is Inside Job at 7 mins.

there are good jams out there but I guess the days of commercial rock is over for many zeppelin like masters of 7 mins or more!

I think it was perfectly suited.

The thing about ITW for me, is that I read the book first, and the music couldn't have been more fitting. I can understand that if people were coming at it as a solo album that it might have seemed incomplete, but within the framework of the film and book, it was perfect.

In terms of the new album, it seems like all the songs that needed the extra time, got it. The only shorter songs are the faster paced, punky ones, which is fine. Stuff like Amongst The Waves, Speed Of Sound etc, all seem to be of average length.

first off i also can't beleive he missed lukin.

and secondly as long as its a good album does it matter how long it is,

i think at the end of the day its quality not quantity that counts .. am i right

quality > quantity: as everything in life.....so I'd agree. I don't give a crapola how short it is. If it's passionate, I'll be happy with it.

I love Lukin. Especially the Benaroya version. That was awesome.
