I'm really happy to live in Europe and to have the possibilty to go to Pearl Jam shows where the floor isn't seated. I hope that this will last for ever.I mean, It's a rock band and therefore you'll have to stand , to jump, to dance, to mosh, to sing, etc.
To all the crowd surfing and mosh pit haters take a look at this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2E3uZ-Q ... re=related

You'll never get a fantastic show like this with seats !

;)
Beavis : Is this Pearl Jam?
Butt-head: This guy makes faces like Eddie Vedder.
Beavis: No, Eddie Vedder makes faces like this guy.
Butt-head: I heard these guys, like, came first and Pearl Jam ripped them off.
Beavis: No, Pearl Jam came first.
Butt-head: Well, they both suck.

Here's what Ed said about this amazing crowd :

"You're too good to us... I don't know if we deserve it, just thank you so much... We were talking -may I speak English for a-... We were talking in the back, this has to be, as far as your voices and energy... I... of all the years I think this is the greatest audience we've ever played for... ... I mean no one sings the guitar parts, for Christ's sake..."

I watched a lot of shows at youtube and there is no doubt that ARGENTINA has the best crowd, that energy is fantastic. Watch Black from the same show at the end they're singing something like : " olé, olé, olé, Pearl Jam, Pearl Jam ". They are having fun at a gig ! They are not complaining about the fixer, a not played b-side, people who are sitting at the wrong place

Great videos. Those crowds are freakin amazing. It makes me wonder why they don't head down there more often :geek: There is no other way to describe it other than the crowd just looked like they were having the biggest, best orgasm ever in the history of orgasms  :? :D How that much energy could be contained in one place and not cause spontaneous combustion is beyond me.

I was thinking the same. Yesterday I watched Imagine in cornice and Ed talks about how great it his when he fells the energy of the crowd. That day in Italy he had to wear two different t-shirts because the crowd was so good , what did he do in Argentina ? ;)

    Here's Black : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIetIF5OlRQ

I need two minutes to find my breath after watching this... INCREDIBLE !

    Watching it now.

And yeah, there are some very spoiled people on this board, some of the bitching and moaning is ridiculous. I had pretty bad seats at the O2 show in London, but it was still the best I think I've seen them, and that includes both the tiny Astoria and SBE shows. The funniest was the person moaning that they got like row 14 in the block right next to the stage!, seriously, they would have been among the best seats in the house at the O2 show.

Watching these videos brought to mind something that was discussed in another thread about how PJ concerts seem to be real "sausage fests" :o  :D I have to laugh, because these audiences seem to really embody that ;):lol::lol: Lots of testosterone in that audience :D

Still, amazing shows. I wish the South American shows had been released as DVDs :P

I think that this show is available somewhere in the dark in Internet street ;)

I have the feeling that someday we won't be able to see the difference between an U2 and a PJ crowd... :x

At first i didn't understand the issue some people had about the seats.... not getting the right place or so...

But then i saw some pictures and vids from the tour in de USA and oh my god...
I will never ever sit down in a standing area.
If this means i can't go to a concert in the USA so be it. It's ridiculous... frusty.gif

Oke, in a standing area as in Europe the strongest will be in the front but that's evolution baby devil.gif

To roam free and have fun in the mosh is al about Pearl Jam. That's how they started... it is not a Bob Dylan Concert where you sit down and listen to the music and songs.

I think that is why Pearl Jam loves to play at festivals in the USA

In all honesty let's face it, the Argentinians are completley bonkers. See them at a football game with them all jumping around in unison. I love a jump around at a gig but I really think going in the pit in Argentina is a little bit to el loco. It's one hell of a sight for sure.

If any of you has the Rage Against The Machine DVD from Mexico City, check some of the crowd out there. Nuts I tell you!
    :D Rock on!!!! :D
Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.

There's no denying that the crowds in South America are loud and passionate and by no means am
I downplaying the energy they bring to a concert but don't the stadiums hold about 3 times
as many fans that the band would normally play to in NA?

    It's all relative.

Give 'm a beer or a smoke and when the shit hit the fan your happy he's covering your back.

At least ithat works for me.. ;)

I like the pit very much and but it doesn't need to be a streetfightingparty 8-)

what do you do when last kiss comes up?

I like the option of a seat,

that little piece of real estate for 2 or 3 hours, so i can sit if i feel i might need a breather or to take some of the pressure off of my lower extremities.

  • yeah, this is good in theory, but americans are so reactionary, the first time somebody gets trampled at a GA show, it ruins the fun for everybody.

back in the hayday of moshing, i had moments of great fear that I was going to die/couldn't breathe/etc. while it's fun, it's also dangerous.

and i do think PJ should do a real stadium tour. in cities where they do 2,3,4 shows in a row in arenas, why not rock out a 100k seat stadium. other bands have done it. Metallica played the Ohio State horseshoe and, from what I heard, it was amazing. Pink Floyd played there as well many years ago. With the field seating, it would probably hold upwards of 120k.

One part would be that when they multiple date in the same city, its a very high percentage of people that are going to all of the multiple shows.

turn it into a one night even, you don't benefit from that.

As for moshing. I used to be all for GA. I think making an entire arena/stadium GA can be crazy in north america. So many redneck circles and violence in the pits.. it can be scary. If they wanted to GA floor/seated seats, I could see that. You limit the quantity of people in the floor, without everyone rushing the stage. Also seeing as the floor might be made up entirely of 10c members, it might help filed our the assholes who take speed before a show and try and take everyone down.

Missoula 98, had GA floor/seated seats. I think it was a college footbal stadium. It worked out well one of the best pits I've ever been into. A month later in seattle, at memorial stadium. That was a scrary (at the 2nd show), I backed out after 3 songs.

I think the 20 year old version of myself was very gung ho for pits.... but moshing/pits in north america has gotten worse over the years?
