Amongst the waves:
Matt said it is a classic PJ song.

after hearing part of this song even once, I could hear that classic PJ sound and feel...
I not sure if anything else resembles the Old School PJ sound other than this on the new CD...

Yeah those 15 seconds are so incredibly classic...Those 15 seconds are right up there with GTF, Evenflow, and DTE...I hope the other 2 minutes and 30 seconds of the song is only half as good as those 15 friggen seconds are...Come on people.

there are two 30 seconds clips out now from different parts of the song.. the minute we've heard now sounds pretty classic to me. :P

I agree!! The 30 second clip I have is AMAZING!! This my be the best song on the album. We shall see. Hope they play it in Philly.

Yeah the original clip which I guess if from the chorus, sounds positively Alive-esque! I can not wait to hear the full song!

I've heard the original clip is actually from the end of the song.. the new clip is more like the chorus.

Cool. At the end of the amazon clip it sounds like Ed's about to sing the "I've gotta..." part from the first clip, so I guess it just builds and builds until it gets to the epic finale.

Yep...this is what i'm hearing as well. The original 15 seconds clip is either the bridge or the climax...or both. The 30 second clip is the end of a verse plus the chorus "it feels like I am floating (??) high amongst the waves".

The song sounds fucking classic and soars like no PJ song since Yield (GTF and In Hiding). This has got to be a single!

I was afraid at first to tell it like it is..but this is what my ears hear..there has to be at least one classic or great song on every cd

Yeah...that's the original :15 clip. There was another :30 clip floating around of the verse to chorus transition but it was soon pulled.

After hearing the second one I am convinced that this will be one of my all-time favorites...and I don't give a shit that I haven't heard the whole thing yet.

I know magic when I hear it.

ok i tried not to write about this song and just let it be - but the youtube preview has me so moved and re-thinking everything about the last couple of albums - here is what i realized: i still enjoy and love avocado, and the other past three albums but no song since 'yield' has really made me leave the earth in my mind in an energetic flash entirely on its own accord like this one promises too. i guess over the years i know how to listen to a pearl jam song and sort of adopt it ....but this one just takes over like 'in hiding' or 'faithful' -

when the recent german magazine article preview review said about 'amongst the waves': " finally a song that pushes in all directions" i think that was dead on...." - i think he/she meant "finally"on the backspacer album but, too me i now think it means finally affter many years....if this song has the life it does in the short clip then i think it will be in my top 2 or 3 all time pj catalogue. i admitt the only problem with this song is that it takes three songs that i already enjoy "got some", "fixer" and "Speed of sound" and it kind of eclipses them .....imo. i hope that doesnt sound negative - i think the album will be great - but please make this one the next single - the radio world could really use such a potentially defining song....

i'm not trying to be difficult here, but i just went out and listened to the only 31 second clip i could find, and it wasn't anything special IMO- maybe it'll grow on me, but it's not like i felt i was listening to a CLASSIC PJ tune that would be a LIVE staple for years to come like some have said. maybe the other clip would turn me on more, but I can't find it.

i havent heard anything like what people are saying either. i think people are just deperate for a new epic tune. it might be good or bad, but it doesnt sound like anything off of their old albums to me.

The song sounds great as do pretty much every other song, based on the amazon 30 second clips (I would take the 30 second clips over the last couple albums). It's classic Stone Gossard, so I feel like I can compare it to Alive and In Hiding - from what I've heard its on par with those. Not gonna say it's better or worse until I hear the whole song. Force of Nature, Johnny Guitar, and GSMF sound like sick rockers to me. Can't wait until Sept. 20th or sooner, whenever I get this album in the mail.
