He put up a tough fight. Rest in peace, Sir.

Eunice Kennedy only passed away the other week.

I was thinking, if JFK were alive today, he'd be 92.

A sad day for America. Rest in peace, sir. You deserve it.

I think he knew he was at death's door with the legislation he was trying to pass to get the governor to replace him as quickly as possible. :( I hope he didn't suffer too much. Great man and great politician.

It's' sad that the cause he has devoted his whole adult life to is so close to passing, and the Lion won't be there to see it.

Joe Biden just gave one hell of a speech about Ted. I'm sure the major websites will have it up soon. Very emotional stuff.

I'm sorry someone died, but he is hardly a great man like someone said. Try to remember he left someone for dead.

Let's not paint some glorious picture for him.

i don't like to do personal attacks, but i have to reply in this case. whatever man, why are you trying to fuck up this thread? i figured you would be the first to throw a stone of some sort. nobody asked for your opinion of him, it is an RIP thread, show some respect. just because you disagree with his politics does not make him the bad person. by the way that was an AUTO ACCIDENT, and in case you have never noticed, they are called accidents for a reason. he did not kill her on purpose, you tosser. do you really think he did it on purpose and did not carry the guilt of that night with him the rest of his life? that is like saying laura bush killed that person on purpose, yet you have nothing to say about her i am sure. this thread is in memory of him, not an indictment of him.

this man was born into unbelievable wealth and instead of spending every day of his life sitting on a yacht somewhere he became a public servant was in the trenches fighting for the people that had nothing. he fought for civil rights, voter rights, people with disabilities, he was pro worker and pro union. he fought for the little guy. there is something to be said for that. he had to carry the torch for the father and three brothers that he lost, two that were murdered, and carry on as their legacy. that was an extreme amout of expectation to live up to, and some long shadows to stand in. i think he did alright by Joe, Jack, and Bobby and by the american people. his voice in the senate will be missed. rest in peace Ted, and thanks for all you gave to us. i am sorry that you will not get to see your dream of universal health care come true.

I don't mean to be an ass, but since you felt it necessary to respond I'm just gonna go ahead and say that JB didn't say he killed her on purpose, he said he "left [her] for dead" and I don't think there's much arguing there because this is exactly what he did. You can't really defend that other than to say that he did do some good, but he fucked up plenty. "The guilt of that night" is such a bullshit argument. He fucked up that night and someone else's life was taken because of that. Oh and I always hate it when people say "no one asked for your opinion." So what? Is he not allowed to give it? Also, making an assumption like "I'm sure you have nothing to say about Laura Bush" when this thread has nothing to do with her is also a weak point.

Anyway, I hope this thread doesn't turn into a back-and-forth but I'm sure it will so whatever...

It isn't going to turn into some back and forth. I stated a fact simple as that. I don't like when people are immediately given halos when they die and I'll call out the BS when I see it. The same holds true for Michael Jackson, why glorify?

They can have their RIP thread if it gives them that warm fuzzy feeling, I prefer to stick to reality.

    Good day to all.

first of all i am not condoning what he did or making excuses for it. it was a disgusting event and he should have handled it ina better way, like maybe going to one of the four houses near the bridge where the car went into the water. it was a terrible accident. let me ask you this, if he was such a terrible person why was he never voted out of his senate seat? the answer is because the good with ted outweighed the bad. you can pick apart my post all you want if it makes you feel better, be my guest, and if it turns into a back and forth its because you jumped into it. the fact remains that ted sponsored over 2500 pieces of legislation, hundreds of which became law. you said that i can't defend his fuck ups by saying he did some good, but ted had a hand in doing more good than you or any of the rest of us ever will. and the "guilt of the night bullshit" is not bullshit. he has carried that with him the rest of his life so whatever man. also, the laura bush killing someone in an auto accident is relevent because it did happen and someone else lost their life as a result of her actions but she has never been demonized for it the way ted has been. it is a double standard.

but anyway, i am sorry this thread is turning into another pissing match. so typical of the moving train.

lol come on that's a terrible argument and you know it... most of the politicians we have are corrupt and don't deserve to be in office...
you said that i can't defend his fuck ups by saying he did some good
no actually, I said you CAN do that. I said you can't do much else OTHER THAN to say that he did some good.
but ted had a hand in doing more good than you or any of the rest of us ever will.
    I hope not.

    nicely put gimmesometruth.

It's so easy to condemn a dead man isn't it. Where were you with all your thoughts when he was alive JB811? If those who condemn think he was such a poor human being, why didn't you do something to have him removed from the political office that he held for almost 50 years? Why? Because, you don't really give a fuck about Mary Jo. If you did, you would have made more of a fuss when Ted was alive instead of waiting for him to die. It is just soooo much easier to take potshots at him after he has passed away isn't it?

i cannot believe the venom already be spewed. Ted Kennedy was someone who could have so easily spent his life making money in the private sector. Instead, he chose to spend his life in public service trying his best to improve education, healthcare and the lives of people trying to live on a ridiculously low minimum wage. I am sure he spent many nights regretting the mistakes he made in his personal life, but I admire and respect the way he has tried to make a difference. How easy it would have been for him to waste the rest of his life away.

i lost my brother to a drunk driver. i loved him more than i can ever explain, i miss him every day of my life. nothing will ever bring him back, but as time has gone on, it's made a whole lot easier to bear because i hold onto the hope that the person responsible for his death, will lead a better life than they did before, much like Ted Kennedy. At least then, my brothers death would not have been in vain.

He fought so hard for the causes he believed in. Thank you Ted. RIP

    My thoughts on Ted Kennedy...

First, let's face facts: If he hadn't been a Kennedy, he never would have been a Senator, and he probably would have gone to jail for what happened at Chappaquiddick. Most of the Kennedy family is a bunch of spoiled brats, coasting off the business success of Joe Sr and the political connections he established with FDR and the Democratic party machine. Had to be said.

Ted is probably guilty of criminally negligent manslaughter, but I don't know if there's a way to prove it. Chappaquiddick has always been a source of morbid humor here in Mass, but at the same time Ted K has always been popular, getting re-elected every six years by wide margins, including the election that took place a year after Chappaquiddick. It's a weird thing I have admit, and even I would say there's something likable about the guy that makes you want to forgive him. The 2nd generation Kennedys all had that quality. The 3rd generation, however, blehhh. The Kennedy dynasty is over, and that's a good thing if you ask me.

Ted Kennedy has been our Senator here in Massachusetts since 14 years before I was born, so it's really strange that's he's gone.

In his later years, he became one of the more likable Kennedys. It was like he determined to prove himself worthy of his office. I heard many calls on talk radio today from people who are very thankful for the things he has done for them. He's done a lot for Massachusetts and he has been a big part of bringing progressive reforms to this country. But I'm not sure if he's been a good voice for liberalism. There's a reason Republicans brought him up so often.

    RIP though, Teddy K.
