.....he can't play the intro to Love Reign o'er me. Shouldn't they be having people that can play instruments correctly in a band as big as Pearl Jam?

don't get me wrong, i like what the piano/organ adds to the touring band but all i'm really pointing out here is that maybe this particular dude isn't their best option.....

Tell ya what Mozart....Send them a demo of you playing the intro of "Love Reign O'er Me" and maybe they'll hire you for their next album/tour.

    Boom plays this just fine.

    Thanks

    just an opinion.

i just don't think his playing abilities are up to par with the rest of the band, who are all good at what they do.

Really? Someone doesn't like something, but is not justified in stating that unless he can do it better?

I can't dance for shit, but I still feel justified in saying this chick bloze goats:

    werd.

Also, I agree w/ OP. I can't play piano/organ to save my life. I am worse than Boom. I would fail at an organ-off. I still think they could do better, but they're buds, now, I guess, and that's where the loyalties lie. Or something.

  • Hahaha. I love the people getting pissed off and defensive. Geeze. I didn't know that in order to critique a musician, we have to also be able to play the same instrument as he does. When it's a cover song, there is a certain expectation to stay somewhat true to the original. I think his piano is terrible is RITFW.

    "Boom plays just fine"

    No he doesn't. Thanks
  • Petey couldn't play it live either. That's why it was recorded and played on tape when I saw them.
    WOOT!

    Exactlty!!

That intro is not the easiest shit to play. I wasn't in Chicago, but everytime I've heard him play it, he's nailed it.

If Boom was out there fucking up Love Boat Captain everynight then I'd give you some slack.

But I just think some people go way out of their way to diss the poor guy with no substantial reason.

Personally I like what Boom has added to the group.

Personally I love 'The Silver Hawaiian...' Everything else aside, it's cool to yell 'Booooooom" at a concert after LBC or Crazy Mary. :P

Would you rather there be no piano intro to Love Reign O'er Me?

I am just a big organ fan. That version of Save You on the Easy Street EP is my favorite, I think because there is no organ

    wuuuut

I think it sounds nice anyhow.
  • Yes, he butchers the intro every time. Brendan O'Brien during Rock Honors, now that's how it's done!
