What I can't fathom, is why it is acceptable for people to advertise posters at a marked up price on here, when people selling tickets at a marked up price are so frowned upon :?

They only increase in value because less of them are in circulation, it's the exact same reason that a scalper can get away with charging stupid prices.

Just because it's accepted doesn't mean it's right. Considering the grief people give to those who sell marked up tickets (despite the fact they could be selling for genuine reasons like they just lost their job or something and need money for rent), it just seems odd that people can get away with selling a poster that probably cost $30 at the show, for $170 on here.

If I bought a house and it happens to appreciate over time, does that mean I should sell it for what I paid?

No, no, no, you're missing my point.

It's the fact that it's taking place on this forum. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the board rules stipulate that you can't sell tickets at an inflated price on here, but they seem quite happy to allow people to charge more for a poster.

I'm all for capitalism, and I can see that the prices are a fair price, given what they go for on ebay, it just seems to be hypocritical to allow one type of money making and not another. What business is it of 10c if someone wants to pay stupidly inflated prices for a ticket?

ya know, its art. Art prices go up, they go down. He is asking for below "market value" on these posters so i dont have a problem with it.

if he bought a Chicago II 09 poster last night for $35 then came here today asking twice that, then i would have a problem with it.

good luck to the OP with his sale, and may these posters find a good home.

I'm fighting the urge to buy the Virginia Beach 08 from ya. ;)
    Peace, Love.

i do agree....to a point. i do not understand why ANy sales, of any kind, are allowed here. sure, 10c hawking wares, that makes sense. fans hawking wares...no matter what they are, i don't get. however, not my call to make.

as to this point.....what business is it? it IS their business, as this is pearl jam's official site, and therfore they get to determine what is ok, and what is not ok. it's not truly hypocritical at all. it's a judgement call on their part. we all make em, all the time....and given that this is their space, we agree to their rules. simple as.

crazy - good luck with your poster sale. personally, i would just use ebay. easier/safer imo. i've bought posters from fans here/EB and i've bought from ebay. when i've bought from real friends, i've gotten decent deals...but really, my best deals were always thru ebay, and yea....just more recource using that resource imo. anyhoo....hope you get your cash, and some collector gets a poster they want. win-win.

They're happy to see fans pay over the odds for one thing but not the other? I always thought hypocrisy was hypocrisy........ Obviously I agree, it's their space and their rules.

Anyway, enough from me, good luck with your sale!

I think the difference is with tickets they are trying to stamp out an after market for a commodity that only has a limited life. A couple of months after you buy it then it's worthless. So buying for resale at a profit can be seen as cynical.

Whereas with posters etc allowing people to buy them and then saying you may NEVER resell. Should a poster bought in '96 for $10 only be resold for $10 when the owner has kept it for many years and probably didn't buy it with resale in mind knowing that the person who buys it can put it up on ebay and make hundreds of dollars? Usually when these things are offered on the board it is for less than the seller could make if they went to ebay.

I'd like to thank you U R A Crazy Breed, without you I wouldn't have the chance to get the poster. I think that this is a great oppurtunity, I paid a value price and I doubt that I'd find it cheaper on ebay.
    Thanks again

    happy?
    i think not.
more like...accepting a common practice. many, many items increase in value over time due to numerous factors. art is one amongst the many. pearl jam poster art is therefore one amongst the many. posters can last for years and years......whereas a concert ticket's value is finite, once the show comes and goes...it loses it's value. pj/10c have - perhaps arbitrarily - decided that scalping tickets is not ok. it is a rule of 10c membership that you cannot sell 10c tix above face value or you risk your membership. no such rule exists for ANy other product, whether tshirts, stickers, posters....or anything else one sells here. (yes, there wee a few posters, sold direct thru 10c, that said "not for resale"...but no risks involved b/c there is no way to 'prove' a poster was bought thru 10c and not a fellow fan, at the show, etc) they also choose to not allow scalping of ANY concert tix here on this site.....but obviously, you can do so elsewhere....even tho it is clear they don't 'approve'....no such rules for being booted from the fanclub exist for non-10c tickets. that is not hypocritical, it is a judgement call. tho as i said, i DO agree....i don't think sales of any kind, outside of official pj merch, should exist here....but this is THEIR board, not mine, so their call.
