New approach for Pearl Jam with this album (promoting it)

I'm so used to only hearing the single w/b side about a month prior to any new PJ album, but for Backspacer (and even S/T) Pearl Jam are doing things different, as in giving us sneak peaks at the songs, making a "making of..." video, using the internet, you tube, etc. Just think if they had done this with their first few albums (if technology back in the 90s was like it is today). It's kind of a bittersweet feeling; pro - because it's cool to hear new things from them; con - not being able to have that feeling when the new album is in your hands on release day and being able to hear all the songs for the first time as a whole. I guess I'll just have to get used to the new way they're doing things with new releases.

while i agree that its different, no one is forcing you to click on links to watch/hear this stuff.

i've been very good about only checking a few things out so the release day is still fun for me.

i see a link to something and email it to myself so i can go back and watch it AFTER i get the album. lol

i'm just a geek like that though.

  • yeah, I'll never forget the line-up I endured at midnight in downtown Winnipeg (not safe!) trying to get my copy of VS. It was so exciting. But so was camping out for concert tickets. now I just wake up, get a coffee, wait for the clock to ding 10, and start typing. it's boring, but honestly, it worked out perfectly with my age. As I got older, I no longer "had" to do that stuff. No way I'm camping out for tickets and leaving my wife with a 3 year old and a 2 week old!

I've actually stopped downloading illegally. I've found it's actually more satisfying to pay for music, and then you become a little more discerning with what you listen to, and it means more. That's just me though. But I've always paid for the music I really wanted, but downloaded the stuff I just was a casual fan of. Now I just pay for everything, and scrap the casual stuff.
