Is it just me or do some of the recent setlists look remarkably short, particularly in the encore stages. I have to admit, I haven't been overly impressed?

they are keeping them short so when they play 40-50 songs a night in philly it looks even more spectacular

    Short setlists???

They played 27 and 28 songs a night the past few shows. Thats about as high as they've played on any tour. The 30+ song shows are rare and on special ocasions.. there's plenty of shows from 2000, 2003, 2006 where they barely played 25 songs.
  • I can't work it out , maybe I'm just thinking the song choices haven't been what I'd have hoped for

This tour has been their most fantastic so far, 130-145 minutes seemed only 30 to me, so I guess they should play 5-600 minutes at least to keep us all satisfied. You SHOULD be impressed  !

I went to three gigs last week and saw 57 different songs from about 85 they played. What songs is it exactly that the band are not playing and you would like to hear?
we're all going to the same place...
  • I'll never get it when people bitch about PJ's set list.

They do an excellent job mixing it up every night.

If you want boring take a look at a Chili Peppers set list.

90% the same songs every night and the first 10 are ALWAYS in the same order.
  • Here what u get with the Peppers:

I didn't understand why they were using such short setlists on this tour either, until last night. They took the energy level that an average song has at a Pearl Jam show - doubled it - and shortened the show's length a bit. I didn't even notice it, and while this 'energy' aspect doesn't translate on paper - those that see a show as special as last night's felt (which I'm assuming is what the European shows felt like) will understand that you don't need any longer of a show than that!

Just got in from the Toronto show.
The best 2 hours and 15 minutes of my 2009.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the PJ setlist on this tour.

Wait until you see the show and then see if you feel the same way ;)

In 1998 most shows were 2 hours or less. I think those were pretty good shows.

Exactly. The energy FAR compensates for the show's length.

It's not about the number of bloody songs, its the actual playing time.

If they played Keep on rockin, porch, alive, crazy mary, fuckin' up etc then its going to be 'short' but those songs are long!!

Agreed. The band cant possibly please everyone. They have to cater to the masses as well as us Ten Clubbers. Casual fans and those who go to see Pearl Jam out of curiosity and people who aren't fans at all but come along with friends, brothers, sisters, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands etc just for company. If they didnt play certain songs, eg Even Flow, Corduroy, Better Man etc (that those of us who've been to multiple shows have heard so many times) people would be whingeing right left and centre that they didn't play the hits they wanted to hear! And maybe that the band were good but they didnt know enough of their songs! I think the band are doing a fine job of mixing up their setlists and as the tour progresses, more and more songs that they haven't yet played will emerge. I have to wait until the Australian leg of the tour and it'll be interesting to see what they break out by the time I get to see them. ;);) I am so looking forward to the whole shebang.

Jesus. What songs would you like them to play?

Last night they played Black, Wishlist, Off He Goes and Small Town, all in the same show.

If I were allowed to pick five songs and only five songs for PJ to play at any given show, those would be four of them, without question.
everybody wants the most they can possibly get
for the least they could possibly do

My only complaint is the lack of new songs, which I am guessing has to do with the album not being released yet and the band not wanting to let the entire cat out of the bag, for some reason. Other than that, they are mixing things up as well as they always do (which is to say, better than any other mainstream rock band).

That's pathetic. Maybe that's why they consistently appear on people's "worst show I've ever been to" lists.

What I would suggest you all try and understand is that these shows, while they are short in length, far compensate in intensity. I've never seen the band as tight as they were two nights ago.

    I don´t get this.....

I just saw them in the O2 Arena. They played 28 songs and some of the pretty long. eg. Porch, Crazy Mary, Alive, Even Flow, Love reign o´er me.....
They played 2.35 hours - if ths is short...........
Run away my son. See it all. Oh see the world.
  • Most shows I have seen in the last few years by different bands range from 15 to 20 songs. PJ is always a special treat. I mean, how many bands out there play over 25 songs every night?? Not many. Lets not take PJ for granted...they really take care of their fans!

    saw them 8 times.

shortest shows were two festivals (Hurricane & Werchter). And even those were both over 2 hours. (just about, but still).

a long show is all well and good on paper, but usually if u listen to the boots of the REALLY long shows, the energy of the crowd and the band wanes towards the end.

Sheperds Bush was 24 or 25 songs and i was wrecked after rocking my little heart out. same for Dublin 06.

3 hours is fine at an american show, you wimps have seats. Us GenAdmission purits in Europe have to stand the entire show....3 hours would be tough!!

Agreed, I was caned after SBE and it was the shortest show of the European ones I saw. I didn't come out feeling like I had much more left in me and I'm sure the band were feeling similar.
we're all going to the same place...
