Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is one of the best albums I have ever heard and Kicking Television is a great live album. Where should I go from here tthough? I was thinking about picking up either Summerteeth or A Ghost Is Born but I'm not really sure which album I should listen to next.

Personally, I'd go with Summerteeth, but some people might say to go earlier and just start @ the beginning of their catalog, which is also fine... but a lot of my favorite Wilco songs are on Summerteeth... imo you can't go wrong with it.

Take a look at kicking television and see what songs you like the most and the albums they come from. Then check out that album.

I rank their albums like this:
    Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
    Being There
    Sky Blue Sky
    A Ghost is Born
    Summerteeth
    Wilco (the album)
    AM

I basically like them all a lot and they could change.

Wilco have been my favorite band of the last ten years. I love all of their albums. That said, if I had to pick one to be stranded on a desert island with, it would be "A Ghost Is Born". It's a little more rockin' and sparse than the others. I love it.

you should definitely get them all. their run from being there - a ghost is born is one of the greatest runs of albums a band has ever put out in my opinion. sky blue sky is very underrated. i guess it depends what you are looking for. if you want more of the experimental stuff right now, go for a ghost is born. if you want some classic beatle-esque pop songs, go with summerteeth. if you want the greatest double album put out since blonde on blonde, go with being there.

fyi, i'd rate their albums like this....

    being there
    summerteeth
    a ghost is born
    yankee hotel foxtrot
    sky blue sky
    am
    (the album)

that doesn't even include the two mermaid avenue albums with billy bragg, which are both classics as well, although not strictly wilco.

Definitely Summerteeth, although they're all good. I wouldn't start at the beginning because A.M. doesn't really reflect the band's strengths even if there's some good alt country on it.

I'd rank their albums like this:

    Summerteeth
    Being There
    Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
    A Ghost Is Born
    Wilco (The Album)
    Sky Blue Sky
    A.M.

Summerteeth. Album that hooked me on Wilco.

    My ranking:
    Summerteeth
    YHF
    Sky Blue Sky
A Ghost is Born (would be higher if: the production weren't so deadened; Nels Cline played on it - he kills on the songs live)
    Wilco (The Album)
    Being There
    AM

I love Kicking Television, but dunno where to stick a live album on the list.
  • I only own one A Ghost is Born and I never get tired of this album.

The 1st time I listen to is was during a 4 hour training run and I believe I played it 3 times.

    Worth every penny.

I started with YHF, then Sky, blue, sky. They are all great though.

  • Being There would get my vote, since it's a double CD and all, then I'd go Summerteeth.

I'm looking for a pair of tickets to Wilco's Memphis show on 10/10.

And I'd start with Being There, if I were beginning a Wilco odyssey. Not their best, but gives you an idea of where they come from and where they won't be going with Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and A Ghost is Born.

you can't go wrong with any of them to be honest. I would start with their new one and go backwards from there... My personal favorite is Summerteeth with Ghost is Born a close close second. Wilco have one of the strongest discography's in modern music so any choose is going to be a winner.
