As you can see.....I don't have a lot memorized. I started listening to them recently, ala ST, and then started listening to Ten and VS. like mad. Never really listened to Binaural or Riot Act ever, and the middle three were also very very rare plays.

My plan, or wish rather, is to memorize and know every single song for the show, so that when I'm in the 10C area for the first time...I can sing along to any song they throw at us.

Who wants to join me on this adventure. Maybe we could post updates of our methods, how many we do in an allotted amount of time etc. etc.

Starting with Ten songs I don't know and then going from there....we'll see what happens :/

I'm also ashamed to not know any really popular songs like Present Tense by heart. Since I didn't buy the albums right when they cam out...I never listened to them as much as I did ST, which was an everyday thing.

But...wish me luck!

Hopefully by Halloween my brain will be stuffed with PJ lyrics!

    Lol.

I guess I should have worded it differently.

This is more a personal thing. I'd rather the words to the songs, not so I can sing along and be annoying, but so I can be more connected.

My last 2 shows whenever they played a song I didn't really know...I felt ashamed to be there.

    That's why I'm doing this.

If you remember all the words AND when and what shows they were played at, than I would be impressed.
Appreciation is a wonderful thing: It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.... (Voltaire)
  • You are doing better than me. I can't even guess how many times I've listened to Vs. & Vitalogy (a couple of my favorite Pearl Jam albums) & I only have about half the songs down. Ten is the only album I have a majority of the songs memorized (75%).

I am thinking if I look at the printed lyrics while listening the memorization would come quick..but it's just something I've never worried about. I guess I have just been more about the emotion/energy from lyrics but this is something I should change; I know I'm missing out on some messages from the songs!

    Exactly how I felt!

I loved the songs live, but I felt like I was missing something not knowing the words.

Maybe you should join this memorization journey with me

  • I've been a fan for almost 15 years and even I don't know the lyrics to half of the songs. Since English isn't my first language I need to sit down with the lyrics in front of me, because often I can't even hear what Ed is singing. But I never took time to do so. Maybe I should some day soon. I can't stand it that I don't know the lyrics

hopefully you've reconsidered and have given binaural , no code and even riot act some listens,

theres way too many no's under these albums man.

tighten up ,...know all the albums.
youre not gonna hear alot of them but its good to know when they do pop up !

17 fan here. same here. i don't know all the lyrics. But it doesn’t bother me. I look at lyrics the first week when their cd is released and that’s it. if I don’t know them by then oh well.

Maybe I don’t feel bad because ed mumbles! I like that he does. That way I insert what I think he said. takes the pressure off.:D

You think your bad? I dont know ANY complete lyrics. I am TERRIBLE at remembering lyrics. Plus I hardly ever pay attention to lyrics anyway.

The closest song I can get fully is probably Small Town.

i used to know all the albums inside out, but as i got older, i couldn't lie in bed listening every night through headphones... without falling asleep like a granny. so because of the hard yards put in in my youth i reckon i'm 100% on all the songs/lyrics up until Riot Act... then things get hazy. But I'm gonna work on it now...

  • I have a weird ability to remember to lyrics to songs.
Not just for PJ but any lyrics to songs.
My friends and family think I'm a freak.
I remember lyrics to songs from when I was kid. I'm 32 now and still cramming them in there.

When I was younger I used to do what you did doom monkey. Headphones whilst lying in bed until wee hours of the morning. I'll give you a helping hand over the next few months before the shows.

Try listening to one album at a time.

Ed mumbles like mutha fucka sometimes so I bet we all hear different things...but thats for another thread.

Attention is the key at the end of the day. But so is repitition. Over and over again. Becomes another language i suppose.
Yes Monkey... I have been watching the Aussie Nz thread banter over the last few weeks. I don't post much. Frankly ziggystar is quite intimidating to me... anyway your user and avatar is cool but in my head you are the doom monkey. Nothing personal. It's how my brain works.

avocado is the only one i REALLY need to work on. oh, and some of the newer tracks on lost dogs... riot act to a lesser extent. but i'm committed to the cause. nothing like going to a gig and knowing EVERY song. it doesn't happen often. i was once at a gig where i was the only person not in the band who'd heard every song and it was magic.

Goes with the territory I guess...magic and mythical creatures. You could store the lyrics in your horn
