They were quite good. I thought it was a pretty bad choice of songs for an unitiated audience though. Good that they played different songs at each show though. I didn't like the new version of Ping On Down though, much prefered all the previous versions to that.

Olly's got a good voice, but Ian's my favourite when he bops with his tele covered in stickers <3:D

Olly's the drummer and don't think he sings hardly at all, if ever. Great drummer though. Maybe you mean Ben who is the guy with the gruff Tom Waitsy voice (although it's also been compared to Mr E Vedder which I can't quite see - I love both bands though) and he does most lead vocals. Top band either way.

Overall could have been worse like the Fleet Foxes.

The drummer seemed okay, i still can't work out what the drummer and the other guitarist did with those little things with the mics, dont even know what they are.

The vocalist just annoyed me tonnes and he reminded me so much of Warren Haynes.

They were alright. Three lead singers in one song seemed a bit weird. They were good for a support band but I am not going to run to the record shop to buy their album. I told my workmate Gomez supported and he said they were one of his favourites!
Oh well there's something for everyone.
    :D Rock on!!!! :D
Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.

Well, personally I had expected more because I had liked 6-7 songs of theirs. They were not bad live at all but not that good, either...I thought they would have liked to impress the crowds with e.g. some hits instead of a plenty of introverted and mostly forgettable new tunes :(

not enjoyed them that much in Berlin,

    fell asleep in London (honestly!!)

discovered them watching the rothbury concert broadcast last year..

Now I have almost every CD including rare ones..
frankly, its a shame they do not stick with Ben as the single lead singer..
His voice is what keeps me listening to the band..
Three singers worked for "the band" and that's about it..

If Ben ever goes solo, I will follow him...

all the best tunes come from his leads.. IMO..

BTW.. anyone have some good audience boots of the the Gomez sets?

I would love to get a copy and have lots of non-gomez to trade..

Same here ..... thought they were great in Manchester .... but the O2 performance was really disappointing in comparison

yeah people, i'm not kidding, i had a seat in london, and i DID sleep!!

i still can't believe it was the same band on those 3 shows, maybe berlin and london the same, but manchester was SO different!!

I didn't go to Berlin but I agree with you.. Manchester show was grand  (I'd never heard Gomez before) but London didn't seem very good at all. though, fair enough, I wasn't paying that much attention in London and during their set we were a bit further back. they didn't seem to be as into it as they were in Manchester.

and I must ad, I listened to Gomez a bit from Spotify after I got home and I think they were much better live than on record.

    ...

anybody who was @ rotterdam, what do you think??

btw, i feel kinda sorry for them, i mean opening for PJ is surely not the easiest thing to do... (are they famous outside the uk??)

Think they're only really known in the US and the UK. A few of the band moved to the US, so they tour both fairly frequently. In the UK they're only really known for their first 2 albums, a lot of people thought they died away long ago (I guess it's kinda similar to how a lot of people in the UK see Pearl Jam...).

To be honest, I think supporting an arena tour is a pretty much impossible task. I love Gomez and Idlewild, but seeing them support Pearl Jam was pretty cringe worthy. Playing to a crowd that is unresponsive and anxious for the main band to come on is worlds away from playing their own gig where everyone knows the words. I don't think Gomez or Idlewild would win any fans from their support slot performances, which is a shame, at their own shows they're great live.

Having seen Gomez play more than i should ever admit (100+ ) i must say they were quite tentative with their opening slot shows for pearl jam but still managed to pull off some great music. of the 4, rotterdam and manchester were my very favorites. the berlin gig was tons of fun but too slow for a wild crowd like that. all the same, they are my very favorite band next to pearl jam and ed liked them enough to extend their set time after the first night (he said they played too short a set) woot.

i would be happy to send out some gomez live cds if anyone is interested :) i have tons!

someone posted the set lists on the gomez forum, so here you go!

Interesting to see other such varied responses to Gomez too. I have to be honest and say I enjoyed them more than PJ at Manchester, they were a real treat. At the 02 that reverse couldn't have been more marked.
