Ever wonder how often PJ Rehearses as a whole band?

I always wonder how often the whole band gets together to play/jam/rehearse.

I play some music in a band (I am by no means professional and hardly have talent, so I know comparing the two is silly, but...) There are three of us, and if we dont play twice a week, it seems like things just kinda fall apart.

I always kinda conclude that considering there are 5 main guys in PJ, and they are all over the place doing things, how do they stay so damn good at 100+ songs?!

And do they even enjoy hanging out with each other? I just figure they are the best damn musicians on the planet, and they only jam/rehearse for a few weeks or a month every now and then. what do you think?

As to how often they need to practice, being no musician I can't tell. However, from what I see them do on stage it looks like they have one hell of a time hanging and jamming together.

The way Eddie cracked up when asked about that in a recent interview....I'm guessing not very often.

+1. Really, their performances are pretty rough (not that that's a bad thing).. for me it makes it more fun. I feel like the more polished the band seems, the less connected the fans become with the artist.

In the old loose days they seemed to have the most fun, and more spontaneity of sound. Now it's very good, and in all fairness they want to put on a show that sounds as best their efforts can do, but there was some amazing magic to the lightning performances of the early 90's.

i don't think they practice too much. generally speaking, during the first couple of weeks on a tour, things are a little rough - eddie's voice isn't there yet, there are a few more flubs by the guys than usual, and the band overall just isn't as tight as they could be. just listen to boots from the last few tours..

but as the tours get rolling on, they get better.
i'm more a fan of popular bands.. like the bee-gees, pearl jam

They can practice on their own as well, they all have studios of their own.

i'm betting they dont practice a lot. maybe a bit before the tour starts. i'm also betting they dont really hang out much other than making a record and touring. i think thats why they are still so strong after all these years. they only see each other to make great music. IMO.
    Peace, Love.

No, not really. Never even thought about it. But now that you brought it up, I wonder how often PJ rehearses as a whole band?

that's kinda what i was thinking. but they do seem to get a long rather well. We need another SVT to see the inner workings of the band. SVT was the first time I thought about this -- how they kinda know how to talk to each other to get the job done, ie: "I cant get to an ebow out of finger picking."

Was just wondering if this is why they don't perform many "rarer" songs that often . . . . without a ton of rehearsal time and if it's been YEARS since they played them, perhaps they don't feel comfortable performing rarer songs more often . . . Eddie can forget lyrics (as I do to songs I haven't heard in ages) and the others may forget the riffs/bridges/changes in the songs . . . so they play a lot of the same songs every night because they are in practice with them . . .

    Just my thought....

I've always figured they do alot of their "practicing" during sound checks... that's why we'll hear a rare/old song played at a few sound checks before it makes a live debut. Gives the guys a chance to remember how the hell to play a certain solo, verse, etc...
