Listen to me. We don't even have Backspacer yet, and yet I'm wondering about the next album. What I meant was do you think they'll wait another 2 years before they even inch into the studio, and then have an album a year to a year and a half later? The pattern of late seems be 3 1/2 years between albums.

September 22nd. They'll reveal that Backspacer was just a decoy, and then they'll release an album that blows everyone away and changes the landscape of music forever.

Ha! I remember people saying this very same thing about the last Tool album 10,000 Days. Someone started a rumor online that what leaked was a decoy and the 'real' album would melt your face.. I think 10,000 days is a pretty great 'decoy' album.. Let's hope the same for Backspacer..

If they're not doing full-blown tours there's more time to get their asses into the studio! :D

They might release an LP soon after. An interview said they had a lot of leftover songs they recorded. Maybe 6 months later. Who knows.

Mike said in a recent radio interview that they had 22 finished songs from the backspacer sessions....not to mention 30 songs from Avocado sessions.....

He said that they are going to relase an EP about 6 months after Backspacer......

What happened to OF THE EARTH? supposedly that was one of the highlights from the Avocado sessions, that was a stone song, and had a "peter gabriel" type vibe to it.......For some reason they scrapped it last minute, and threw it in the vault.....

They have at least 50 fully finished tracks from last 2 sessions that they are hoarding for some reason.....

    Lost Dogs 2?

WHY NOT JUST DO WHAT THEY NEVER DONE BEFORE? A DOUBLE ALBUM?!?!?!

Maybe bc its the GREEEN MACHINE?

They already have 150+ songs in their catalog. Maybe they are just getting lazy now. lol. Thats a lot of new songs to learn to play live at once!

I was wondering the same thing recently. I considered that maybe they finished up Backspcer quickly (that is why it is kinda short ~ 36 min.) so that they could release their 10th album with a bunch of buzz that it is on/near their 20 year anniversary from TEN.
Pick up my debut novel here on amazon: Jonny Bails Floatin (in paperback) (also available on Kindle for $2.99)

    I sure hope you're right.

Of The Earth and Alarms of Nautical are the two Avacado sessions songs that I wonder about the most. Both are apparently amazing songs and both have been put in to the vault, at least for the time being.

I would love to see a b-sides type release 6 months after Backspacer (so around March/April 2010) featuring the 10-12 best b-sides from the Avocado and Backspacer sessions.

That would certainly give them a lot of material to play during the 2010 tour dates
