You should try reading the article. The Cleveland paper was just reporting it. It isn't a Cleveland award.
  • I thought for sure that I would win this award....

    Oh well.....

    Maybe next year.......

When Time Magazine did this, I really wanted to put it on my resume. I mean, technically, it is true, I was named Time's Person of the year, I don't see how a company could hold it against me for listing it among my accomplishments.
words seem so out of place.

They hold the "Person of the Year" event the night before the Grammys. A bunch of bands play covers, and then the actual person plays a few songs....it is usually a blacktie event. Last year they honored Neil Diamond. I wonder if next year they will honor Vince Neil, or maybe Neil Peart?

The Arethra Franklin event 2 years ago was horrible. People were leaving in droves by the time she performed. There was actually some nice PJ stuff at the silent auction. Given this is an event for Neil Young, I think there is more than a 50-50 chance that part or all of Pearl Jam will be in attendance and performing. Too bad the event has gotten so big. The LA Convention Center sucks. Back when it was at Sony's facility, like when they honored Sting, it was like a moderate sized wedding. Unbelievably intimate. A bunch of round tables. I'm standing there and 5 feet away, Elton John is having a conversation with Bob Gelfoff(sp?), and Tony Bennet passed through the doorway as I was walking through the doorway in the opposite direction. It was amazing. Now, if it gets any bigger, they're going to need to use Staples. Not sure how they'd serve food at Staples, though.

A new supergroup consisting of Neil Finn, Neil Innes and Neil Tennant will take home the honor, performing a medley of Split Enz, Rutles and Pet Shop Boys songs to close out the night.
  • Congrats for Neil...awesome news! But, I'm kind of disappointed that Pearl Jam is (not yet, at least) included in the line up for the tribute show :(

Glad to see Wilco there, my second most severe musical obsession. Really hoping Pearl Jam gets added to the list though!!!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEIL! Long May You Run!
Two of my favorite Neil lines are from On the Beach's song Ambulance Blues - "You're all just pissing in the wind, you don't know it but you are, and there ain't nothing like a friend, who can tell you you're just pissing in the wind", and "oh mother goose, she's on the skids, shoe ain't happy, neither are the kids." Spent every waking hour listening to him for years. I have no idea why those two came to mind when I read this but they did out of literally thousands of lines. :? Neil is still one of the greatest songwriters ever to spin a yarn and make it move in whatever direction he wanted it to go. He's totally withstood the test of time and still puts it out there. Eddie is the only other artist I feel can that as well. I can only hope that one day he shows up again at a PJ show and karma strikes again and I'm there and they shred the shit out of Cortez, Powderfinger, and Like a Hurricane. I caught the first two back in 95?, but still want to hear those three together and I can only imagine where the year's of added playing experience would take Mike and Neil on those jams. IMO, Neil started what Pearl Jam took over and I just kept moving along with them all since 1972 when I first saw him live after Harvest came out. It's been one hell of a ride for me and I hope neither stops for a very, very long time.
