Pearl Jam needs to do something like this:

My Morning Jacket to play benefit show for Tornado Relief

On August 19th My Morning Jacket, Neko Case, and Phosphorescent will play a fundraiser at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater to benefit United Way of West Alabama. The money raised will go towards tornado relief in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, which is still in recovery after being struck by a devastating twister less than two months ago. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 17th at 10am Central through Ticketmaster and at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater box office.

On April 27th, an astonishing 53 tornadoes tore through Alabama, including a massive EF-4 tornado that was nearly a mile wide. In a span of merely five minutes, the EF-4 destroyed and/or damaged over 7,000 homes in Tuscaloosa and tragically took the lives of 41 citizens on a six-mile track of destruction. Thousands upon thousands of local citizens have been effected by the damageand the city is still in the process of rebuilding.
From Jim: “My Morning Jacket is honored to be given an opportunity to do our part in helping the folks of Tuscaloosa cope with this tragedy and for us, it is a reminder of just how close we all are as people and how important it is for us to come together in times of trouble. Life is a crazy journey and you never know what the next day may bring. We all need each other to help make it thru.”

I could see them doing something like that... however, I have an eerie feeling that they would do it in a place like Chicago (like they did for the Katrina benefit)...

I just spent a week in Columbus for work, and while it's not a bad town by any means, I can't imagine why PJ would play there over Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, etc, etc. Just makes no sense to me. Sigh

Change don't come at once, its' a wave... building... before it breaks..."

In presidential election final tallies, North Carolina has voted almost exclusively Republican beginning in 1968, with only 1976 as exception. In 2008, Barack Obama reversed the trend of Republican dominance here (although just barely), defeating John McCain by about 14,000 votes out of 4.3 million cast (49.7% to 49.4%). It was the 2nd closest race of the 2008 election (behind Missouri). North Carolina will be a swing state to watch in 2012.

In order to strengthen this shift, the Democratic Party has chosen Charlotte, NC for its' 2012 National Convention (DNC), to be held the week of Sept. 3, 2012.
Oh rise. You can't be neutral on a moving train."

As part of this great movement, we are motivated to act: it is our sincere wish that the band, Pearl Jam, bring its' powerful music imbued with a special brand of social conscience to our great state in this important election year. We would be honored to have the band join us to rally our efforts of keeping change and hope alive at this important time in our state and nation's history. We feel it is not time for this wave to break.
if HOPE could grow from dirt like me. it can be done..."

Then Alabama would lose out on the profits. When they do stuff like that, they seemingly fail to realise the hotels, the car rentals, the restaurants, even the shops could all benefit from PJ coming to town, not just the venue and the charity the concert is benefitting. But yea, they do seem to put their personal preferences for location, and the comforts that they are used to, ahead of all else so I could see them doing this too. Lame.
