Been there done that. Learned to always take public transpo to molson amphi. Seriously, its so much less annoying, and you get away so much quicker.

+1. I can see no benefit to driving to the Molson Amphitheatre. One of the most brutal parking scenes ever there.

Exactly! Parking will be nuts, but available, expensive and at a distance.

Be prepared for heavy traffic to the venue. Give yourself more time to get there if you are intending to just arrive for the show to allow for traffic congestion/delays, finding parking and walking to the venue.

Like Nuzpaper said the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) starts on friday and it will be hectic at best down on the Lakeshore.

But on the upside, if you go early you can make a day out of it as there is lots to offer at the CNE: food, rides, other entertainment...check out www.theex.com for more details.

So theres no place to temporary park at like Noon to pick up tickets at this place?
  • polaris_xpolaris_x Posts: 13,559
there is a drop-off kinda area at the entrance to ontario place which is where i think the 10c window will be ... having said that - i do not recommend anyone drive unless it's raining which may make the cne less of a zoo ...

seriously, the best way to get to the amp is to bike! ... my friend is coming from out of town and i'm making him pack a bike ... you can take bike paths all the way there from anywhere on the lakeshore ...

Yeah, I'm wondering the best place to park to simply pick up my tix . . . I'll be driving in from Ottawa and hoping to get to the T.dot by 12:00/12:30 . . . . . shouldn't it be less busy around that time? Surely I can park near the venue and walk to it? Or is it best to park a bit further away and take to GoTrain? Can any Torontonians help out?

No way I'm driving to the show, though. That will be nuts. Hittin' the pre-party and walking :)

How easy is it to get a cab at The Ex (after the concert)? Im staying at the Westin Harbour Castle...looks like its about a 45 minute walk, so if cabs are available that would be my preferance.

Im coming up from Buffalo. Leaving Buffalo about 2PM. I think I should be pretty safe.

Im driving back to Buffalo after.

Dont feel like sitting in hours of traffic after the show. Anyone know a good place to park within walking distance (thats legal)?

Are you staying in a hotel in Toronto? If so, just park there and take public transit. If you're not staying in Toronto and are heading back after the show, you could always take the GO train. Most of the stops from Oshawa to Scarborough are easily accessible from the 401. Parking is free. Last train is 12-ish, though, so you'll have to be sure you're on it.

I heard beforehand it was worse in Mansfield than the Molson Amp, so we parked at the McD's about a 15 min walk away. Then, after the show, we drove in the opposite direction of everyone else (backtracking slightly) and got on the highway one entrance earlier, avoiding even more traffic. Best decision ever! I didn't envy those who were trying to get out of that place. It was a madhouse!

Nope. Staying with a buddy who lives in Toronto. He lives northeast of downtown, near the Leaside Bridge. He said the closest GoTrain stop to his place is Union, so it makes sense for me to just drive to the venue to pick up my tix . . . . . we'll probably be taking public transit or getting a ride down to the pre-party, so we'll worry about getting home after the show once it's over :)

I'm more concerned about the easiest way tog et my tix around lunchtime as I'm getting into town . . . . do I drive there, or take public transportation . . .

I'll do my best to answer some questions - the X-factor for that day is that it is opening day of the EX - people take the day off work to go to this thing so, we do suspect that parking will be a bit crazy on that particular day.

Pick Up: If you are coming with someone - there are a few places you can stop and pick up the tickets and then leave. Again, how easy that is will be dependent on the EX. You won't likely be able to park anywhere and go get the tix yourself - car will have to have someone in it I think.

General Parking: There are parking lots all over the place - the issue is getting in and out of those lots and how much would you rather walk then have to wait. For the guy coming from Buffalo - it's right off the lakeshore so, you just have to know how to get back on the QEW which depending on how busy it is - could be a nightmare considering how little you have to actually travel.

For those at the Westin: There is actually a streetcar that goes from there to Ontario Place. I think it's the 509 streetcar. There will be cabs but depending on how bad traffic is - could be slower and definitely will be more expensive. You just have to make your way from the venue to where the Streetcar is.

Having said all of that - traffic potentially could be ok (I wouldn't bet on it) but you never know.

If you can't park at your friend's, you could always take the Go into the city, parking overnight at the station. I do this all the time, as I like to avoid Toronto traffic and outrageous parking rates. You'd take the Go train from any number of Go stations outside the city to the Exhibition stop. Pick up your tickets and then walk over to the pre-party (or public transit to meet your friend). Then, the next day (or whenever you plan on returning home), you can take the Go from Union to whatever Go station you parked at.

incorrect - there's a pick-up/drop-off zone right in front of the venue box office, so if a couple of people are driving to the venue to receive the tickets, one can wait in the car while the other walks up to the box office,...

Ugh. Not fun. My buddy doesn't live close to a GoTrain station though. That's the problem . . . I don't want to park far away, get the tickets, then take the train back to my friend's . . . I'm meeting him at his palce between picking up my tix and the pre-party. Ah well. I'll wing it and figure it out as I'm driving into town :-)

don't see any other way of doing it but by driving as close to the venue as I can and finding parking . . .

Not fun at all, unfortunately. Can you pick up the tickets and just have your friend meet you at the pre-party? Or, go to your friends and then the two of you pick up the tickets together and then go to the pre-party?

My friend and I have to do some backtracking ourselves, as we're taking the Go to Exhibition to pick up the tickets and then we're taking a streetcar and the subway to meet a couple of friends after work for drinks, and then back to the Molson Amp for the concert.

Yeah . . . possibility. But I may just suck it up and drive down.

I guess the other option is the subway to Union, then the Gotrain to Exhibition? Would that work?

Any subway stations in the northeast (south of the 401, or close to it) that have short-term parking?

    thanks for the info.

I may just bite the bullet and park at the venue.... hopefully arrive around 3:30 or 4.

get my tickets, walk to the pre-party, walk to the venue, watch a great show, sit in traffic, drive back to Buffalo.

I would say try and find street parking along King St. around Strachan. It'll be like a 5 min ride from there. Don't forget to bring a lock for when you go to the 10C window.

Thanks for all the help, guys . . ..

I will weigh my options, and make a choice based on what time I get in, what the weather is like etc..... I'm more anxious about getting in to pick up my tix than I am about getting downtown and to the show on time ;)

There may be a pick up/drop off area but you will sit on the lake shore trying to get to them. I live at Lake shore and Dufferin and I can tell you that the lake shore after 4 is balls on the best of days + all the connecting streets are closed now.

The easiest way to get there is by TTC. From any subway stop take the train to Dufferin station and take the 29 bus south. If you want to go to the preparty get off at liberty st ( all stops are announced) and walk east and it will bring you to the brazen head. If you are not going take the bus one stop further to springhurst. Get of a walk 5 min to the venue

If coming from downtown take the King or Queen westbound streetcar and get off at dufferin and walk south to liberty village for the party or 10 min further for the venue.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO DRIVE google directions to 101 liberty st and check the sat view. Large parking lot. It is far enough that you should get a spot but close enough to walk to the party ( 2min) or venue (10 min) It is city run so it is reasonable. There is also a large free parking lot across from the party and you are not planning on staying late you would be able paek there. Liberty village is a bit of a shopping complex so there is free parking.

at this 101 liberty place. Is it paid/legal parking? Is there an event that we know of going on at that 'stadium' there?

That is where I believe I will park. I appreciate the info. That helps me out a lot
