so i am seriously considering getting some plastic surgery and i wanted to see if i could get some experiences from others. in the past year i've lost about 100lbs (naturally) and have gained an empty skin flap on my belly. so i want to get a tummy tuck and i've been reading info on it off and on for the last few months. most websites say to ask people you know how their experiences were with whatever surgeon they used. well, none of my friends have seriously gone under the knife. maybe a facial scar removal, or something else similarly small.

how did you chose the surgeon?
what surgery did you have?
are you happy with your decision?
how did you prepare?
anything you wish you thought of before/after having the surgery?

  • I've never personally had plastic surgery, but a friend of mine recently got breast implants (they look great too ;) ) I'm not sure how she found her surgeon, but all I will say is that I'm assuming you did a lot of work to lose all that weight, and you deserve to be happy with what you look like. Go for it, you will probably feel a thousand times better than I'm sure you already do! Congrats on all the hard work. Hope eveything works out for you!

definitely go for it - you so deserve it!
kudos for all that weight loss, so impressive!

i wish i could help you, but i've never had any plastic surgery of any kind. i know quite a few people who have had breast implants and nose jobs. i think like anything else, it's all word of mouth. however, you're right, if you know no one who has had the procedure done, word of mouth would be difficult.

perhaps ask your own doctor for some recommendations? and/or places to look, things to look for, etc?

    good luck!

my little sister had some of the worst stretch marks and after her tummy tuck, the surgeon uses her before and after pics. It was such a success. she's had implants too. the plastic surgery does not heal what's bothering her deep down.

you want to make sure that the surgeon is board certified. this is just what i've heard on the radio, etc.
we have a plastic surgeon in my town that opened up a new office and there was an ad in the paper. a week later, in our local paper, it said there was a misprint, he was not board certified. uh oh....
if you find somebody, look them up on your state's licensing website. see if there are lawsuits against that surgeon.

i need plastic surgery on my leg where i let a wanna be doctor do a biopsy. she said the biopsy was negative but i have an ugly thing on my leg. also she used the cold stuff to burn off a little thing on my leg and it is still there.
good luck to you! (plastic surgery becomes addicting I heard)

  • I had plastic surgery.
I had my boobs made smaller. ( After I had stopped having kids)
    I love it- I can't imagine if I hadn't had it done.
While I told the dr. I didn't want to have to even wear a bra after, she left on more than that.
    ;)
But still a little makes a big difference.
The ins paid for it & my naturopath actually gave me the recommendation as she had been the surgeon who had performed her breast reduction.

  • i always say if you want plastic surgery go for it. my mom and brother both got their chins done and my brother and step dad both got their noses done and they all loved the results and have no regrets. however, i have heard that a tummy tuck is more dangerous and risky and know of a family friend who has died from the procedure. i say if you're going to get it done get the best person for it especially for something that is that risky. the doctors my parents and brother used were from this list of greatest NY plastic surgeons and they did great work. there's nothing really to prepare for it i don't think but to be sure you should really ask a bunch of doctors, get referrals, and i'm sure they have before-and-afters so you can make an educated decision from that. hope that helped a bit :)
