I think we'll get a few more albums in their 40s. Maybe two or three more in their 50s, a few solo projects in their 60s and then call it an amazing career.

while I realize the article is mainly about the band and their future, most if not all articles about them alwaqys end up talking about Eddie's politics and his love for Obama, don't they. it's ashame that someone who I think, in spite of his far-left ideals, is an intelligent person who does admirable things, is so sold on the LIE that is president Obama. how delusional can this guy get? he ignorantly thinks that Christianity is the one main problem in America... according to his comment you all read clearly. if there's any hope for you, Eddie, it's the one thing that's gonna save your ass from burning. it's Obama's administration that you need to be complaining about, like anyone who is PAYING ATTENTION should be.

Read it the other day, very insightful. I sign up to Google news alerts so everytime Pearl Jam is mentioned, I get to see it. Although opening internet links reviewing a new band saying they are a mix between Pearl Jam and The Spice Girls annoys me!
    :D Rock on!!!! :D
Seen Pearl Jam 4 times in London, once in Manchester, as well as an Eddie show at Hammersmith.

I agree, I don't get this admiration for Obama, and it's sad that Eddie has bought into it, no politician deserves godly admiration, especially when they have accomplished nothing yet and are only months into their presidency. I'm not saying people should personally hate him or anything but you should always question somebody with that much power and watch them with a close eye. Don't ever trust the government, no matter who the President is.

Lets be realistic here, as president. Obama has to appeal to the whole countries ideals. A very small minority is far left. Most are centered, a lot are right wing.

Obama has to find a balance and its going to piss a lot of far left wing people like you AND right wing people off. I think Ed understands that. If you spend you're time bringing Obama down, you're going to get another Bush in the White House. I know its all or none with you, but you'll never get all.

so you think he is intelligent "in spite of his far left ideals"?

why would an intelligent person have those ideals? maybe because they are hand in hand?

I don't see where Eddie said that xtianity is the "one main problem" but he is correct in that much of our society was shaped by fear of the invisible man.

and why do you think Eddie would feel it necessary to "save his ass from burning"? how people can still believe that in 2009 is beyond me

  • I have progressive political views, conservative economic opinions but vote independent & recognize that Eddie is more on the Air American spectrum.
    So what?
I respect that he is not afraid to express his views or back them up with where he spends his time and money.

I also think that passion and involvement is the sexy and makes for better music.

not to turn this thread political, but i enjoyed reading this:

"Above him in the HQ there's a portrait of Obama. Vedder concedes that things are changing, but there's so much that hasn't: "People on death row, the treatment of animals, women's right to choose. So much in America is based on religious fundamentalist Christianity. Grow up! This is the modern world!"

we all know ed was always very much pro-choice, but i know there are many who have suggested, possibly, since having his own children that he might've changed his mind on the topic. i am unsurprised, and happy, to read that is simply not the case.

good article, thanks for sharing! :)

*edit - upon further reading of this thread past the OP, i see now it already went political. ;) haha. none the less....i am still pleased! :D

hey look, it's one of Eddie's many sheep.

you're clearly saying that intelligence = left wing politics and ideals, meaning that conservatives as well as anyone who sees the horrible truth about Obama and democratic administrations in general are just stupid people. and you liberals are always talking about being "open-minded" and "tolerant" to others yet when you meet anyone who thinks differently than you, you're the exact opposite. pretty hypocritical. you're open and tolerant as long as people see it exactly how you see it. that's the liberal creed nowadays. and damn right I believe that heaven/hell is as real and relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago. you have a choice between the two, but the best part about it is that you CAN do something about it. can't you see the good in that? none of us deserve heaven, but we are given a shot at it simply by having a true relationship with Jesus Christ. it may be a tough concept to wrap one's mind around, but I don't see why anyone wouldn't at least WANT to believe in something so beautiful and merciful.

I really dont see CLEARLY how you took "So much in America is based on religious fundamentalist Christianity" and interpreted it as "christianity is the one main problem in America"

I kinda saw it as how he thinks its unfortunate how religion can be forced into things where it is inappropriate.

Precedent: KISS has become a sad, sad joke of their former, oh who am I kidding, they were always a joke but I love them!

Rolling Stones, great to SEE them still rocking, but a little hard on the hearing (ie Superbowl 1/2 time. Ouch!)

But I must say, RUSH's 30-year anniversary tour was one rockin mo-fo of a show! I think one of the longest runs by any rock band with all their original members! PJ has already blown that.....

I'll be quite happy with Ed in the Uncle Neil role and the rest of 'em doing the Ringo thang for years and years to come. I hope Mike does the Jimi thing for a long long time! And I'm sure they'll get that 1/2 time show at some point. Sigh.
    [sic] happens
  • I love KISS
One of the best concerts was Ted Nugent- KISS & Aerosmith.
