I don't know if its the mixing or what, but the Help, Help thread got me looking through my '03 boots, which I've laid to rest for a few years now.. St. Louis is kicking my ass right now.

2003 kicked some major fuckin' arse. St Louis is a keeper, I listened to it only the other day. Listening to Champaign at the moment, another gem.
  • The Oklahoma City bootleg is awesome, it has a pretty odd setlist. My brother got to go to the show, but.. I didn't :(

    Weak.

Another good thing about the '03 boots, they were the last ones you could actually hold in your hand.

    Hail, hail the 03 boots....
  • The only thing I hate about the '03 boots is that Eddie fucks up Hail Hail and State Of Love And Trust. He makes the same exact mistakes EVERY TIME. I'm surprised that nobody in the band smacked him upside the head after all those bad performances. THANK GOD he re-learned those songs in '05.

I had a new appreciation for Help, Help after the Fargo, ND boot. I could new get into the song off the album, but live it was great.
Oh he fills it up with the love of a girl...

    Hi there!

I love them too...concerning the mix I once made up a thread which caused a controverse discussion about which boot series sounds the best and why...

This was PJ boots at their peak. You could order them and get a low quality mp3 if you needed something to tide you over until the real CD arrived. And when the real CD arrived, it was mixed and mastered well. I bought the whole tour. I took delayed delivery so I got this huge manilla bag at the end of each leg. Pulling that string, dust from the bag flying, I remember looking in there and seeing all these CD's. It was so awesome.

Best of all, I didn't have to set up a laboratory or factory like in subsequent tours. I had the money to buy the 05/06 tours just like I had for 03. But after seeing all that I had to go through to ultimately have in my hand what came in the mail in 03, I gave up very early, after a couple of shows. Only bought a couple of key shows. If there were CD's, I would have bought the tour. Good Job! to whoever made that decision.

Oh, in catering to the angst in some people needing this stuff hours after the show, not much effort was applied to mastering and sound quality (2005 and later). So 2003 really was the pinnacle when it came to PJ boots. Thanks for bringing it up.

These were the first boots I ever listened too, right when I started to become a fan. I started with Tokyo 03 and MSG I & II, and I was hooked. The tone of the guitars on this tour were phenomenal, real heavy. I don't think I've heard a heavier version of DTE than MSG I. 05 was a great tour, but had awful guitar tones. 06 got back pretty close to the 03 sound, but for my money, I'll take an 03 boot any day.

I prefer the 03 Boots a bit more as well, even though there isnt as much audience noise as the 06, which were pretty solid. I just cant stand to hear the Chicago Whistler and some other people who intentionally try to be heard.
That being said, I have heard newer boots where it is vital to have that participation, especially if Ed drops out on "Animal" or something and lets the crowd sing. That being said, the total sound of the band is heard on the 2003 boots, although Matt Cameron has a better fit now rather than earlier, plus, my collection of nearly 700 Pearl Jam bootlegs would look a heck of a lot better if they all looked like the 2003 Bootleg Album Cover instead of the White Cd Sleeves. :D

Totally agree. I listen to 'em all the time. The second leg kicks ass and the FIRST LEG kicks major ass: St.Louis, Kentucky, Pittsburg.

Agreed. The OKC show is awesome, it's pretty well liked here.
I didn't know my friend at the time he went to the show (He drove the day of the show from Dallas) and they bought tix at the box office and ended up on the floor Mike's side. His favorite band is the who, but he told me, "it was a great show" "They are like a younger version of the who." I laughed, and said well, there is some truth to that and reasoning to back it up. Pete is Ed's idol.
He burned me a copy of the boot since I helped him track it down. I love the little begining bass solo riff Jeff does to start off "not for you" and they played "driftin" and "Deep" after a 7 year absence. Man if I could go back in time. He told me, "man, if we had just known each other back then, you could have gone with us." Great show for sure. So, I know what you mean bro all to well in regards to missing this show. It's like the opportunity was in the palm of our hands too late.
