Oh....I'm so sorry to hear about this. THREE PEOPLE!!!???
I remembered when my grandmother stupidly said that cancer can only affect old people. By then, I had a friend of 21 who had two different types of cancer.
I know another person who developed pancreas cancer at the age of 22.

I hope the best for all of your friends. At least they are young so maybe their bodies will be stronger to fight.
You can spend your time alone, re-digesting past regrets,
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who can't forgive yourself

I am a thyroid cancer survivor.
Of course, that is after radiation , a bit of chemo, and then a full thyroidectomy and r lymph node resection/ removal .

I have lost many family members to this dreadful disease,
from Bone Cancer / Metastisis to
    Cancer of the Breast ,
    Cancer of the Prostate ,
    Cancer of The Lung,
    & Melanoma .

Along with a total reform of our Health Care System,
we desperately need cures for diseases like this and Diabetes .
For the ones who had a notion, a notion deep inside
That it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive

As someone who works in cancer research, I am effected by it pretty much on a daily basis.

Fortunately for me, I no longer have the patient contact I once did. THAT was tough!

    Horrible, horrible, disease!

my nana just passed away this february from a long fight with lung cancer :( she was diagnosed shortly after my parents moved her and my papa to florida from louisiana. we moved them over to help take care of my papa's growing medical needs...and she was the one who ended up being really sick. the doctors only gave her a couple of months to live after she did a round of radiation...she refused chemo...and she fought on for another 3 years :)

it was emotionally draining to deal with for my family...especially my mom who basically moved in with my grandparents to help out. but...i'm happy that i had the chance to spend a lot of time with her and my papa over the past few years. growing up in the military, we were only ever able to visit once a year. i think christmas this year will be tough...i'll miss cooking thanksgiving/christmas dinner, just me and her.

but...i have to be thankful of the time we were able to spend together...cherish those memories always!

Honestly, it seems like a neverending stream of people to me, even though most I know are fine now, thankfully. My grandmother, then college advisor/friend, then father, then old teacher, then neighbor, and so on. Of course, my grandmother, the one who meant the most, was the one to go. I don't have much to add, other than to say I don't think I'm the most supportive person in these situations, as I tend to detach and don't know what to do for someone facing mortality. Sad, but true.

I'm nearly 3 years in remission from leukemia. It's a bitch. Probably the hardest thing I've ever had to go through. At the time I was doing chemo, my daughter was 5. Imagine going through that with a little kid around. Reassuring her I'd be fine and trying to maintain a happy exterior, while inside I felt like crap and was scared shitless. A complete mind fuck on top of cancer. nice.

At the time of my diagnosis, the doctor told me I had about 7 years at the most, even with a good remission. I just choose not to believe that. I just figure, for me, my life is too short to worry about watching the clock.
