ok!....here's the deal....if someone likes it, and it is good to them....it's a good record!! If you don't like it FINE!, don't listen to it! Put away your Music Police Badge, and learn to have fun, and like what you like!......Hey, high school faux fashionable coolness politics called, they want everything about you back!!

or maybe you where just having a bad day, and Riot Act didn't sound enough like Good Charlotte for ya!?!

i'm having difficulty understanding how you can be a pearl jam fan and yet HATE any of their releases.

Just because Pearl Jam puts out an album, as fans, we should automatically love it, unconditionally?

Shortly after I bought Riot Act, I accidentally dropped my CD from a balcony and it landed in a rock garden, scratching the CD to bits. I'm pretty sure it was a sign from God.

I love each and every other album, but I just don't like Riot Act. I wish I did, but as hard as it is to believe, Pearl Jam released a very weak album. And as someone mentioned, I think the fact that Pearl Jam plays so little Riot Act in concert is very telling.

    But, to each his own.

    :)
  • some great songs live: 1/2 Full, Green Disease, Cant Keep, a couple others. they are ok on album, too.

my problem is the performances on the album. I blame Ed mostly. from what i remember hearing, he was sick and just rushed throught the recordings. IMO, they were in dire need of work. and Ed sounds dead. completely emotionless.

i also dont like the political lyircs, not because they are political, but they are too obvious and dated to me (see Bushleaguer). Avocado was even worse in this respect.

basically i think Ed sucked on this record. sorry!

THAT, my friend, is a really good point....that's not to say some of my favorite gems didn't come out around then (but, i like a wide variety of shit too) but, good point.....their worst (not that i agree) is still better than most bands absolute best!!......oh, and three words "Thumbing My Way!"......goodnight! ;)

You assuredly are an advanced-level white person. Whoah. So where do you find great sushi in Europe? Where do you go backpacking? What should I do if I want to take a year off and go backpacking across Europe? Where is a great place to recycle? And where oh where, is the nearest Whole Foods? Do they have indie rock in Europe? What if they already have heard of the bands I like - what do I do?

what the hell is and an "advanced-level white person"? are you feeling insecure because you had to google the word to find out what it means? not sure where the anger is coming from but maybe you need to up the ritalin dosage or something. never been to europe, don't even know wtf "Whole Foods". why do you feel the need to define someone that disagrees w you (and incredibly inaccurately at that)? you got issues my man.

Why? because I think it's funny. You're taking this way too seriously. I've made fun of riot act on here for years.
Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?

U are wrong. I am far from this behaviour, I don't have ANY PJ shirts, ANY Their posters etc., but I think Riot Act is really ok. I like it. Maybe not loving as much as ie. Vitalogy, but like it.

I often skip Get right, 1/2 Full, Arc. Really like other songs, an definitely looooovvvve :D Save You and I am mine.

(And I don't think Sweet Lew is new legendary song. this one is a crap.)

I've heard it. Never liked anything they've done. Just my opinion though, that's the beauty of music, everyone hears the same thing differently.

    Exactly.

Once you get passed the makeup, and theatrics of KIss. At least in my opinion.

Kiss Alive I is better than ANYTHING any of those hair bands(Bands I couldnt fucking stand) released in the 70's and 80's.

Kiss and Iron Maiden are the only heavy metal, hair bands, that I actually listened to. The rest of it was garbage.

    Can't Keep - great.
    Save You - good.
    Love Boat Captain - good.
    Cropduster - mediocre.
    Ghost - mediocre.
    I Am Mine - great.
    Thumbing My Way - good.
    You Are - good.
    Get Right - bad.
    Green Disease - mediocre.
    Help Help - bad.
    Bu$hleaguer - bad.
    1/2 Full - mediocre
Arc - good (not really as much of a "song" as the others, and it's quite moving)
    All or None - great.

    Music is subjective people!

Anyway, I like Riot Act. It is their "art" album. I think that, lyrically, it is a very cohesive album. There is a wisdom to the lyrics, a lot had gone on before the album, and I think it showed a band growing up and dealing with issues at hand...love, greed, haves and have nots, and nature.

Love Boat Captain and I Am Mine will always be two of my top songs. Can't Keep, Cropduster, and Green Disease are also great tunes.

The album comes alive live, for sure.
  • Wrong.

    Riot Act is incredible.

If I could pick only 1 record and was only given the first 3 tracks to listen to for the rest of my life it would be Riot Act.

    1. Can't Keep- the drums with eddie's voice is moving

    2. Save You- anger, rage, but all for a good cause

    3. LBC- intense lyrics, from their hearts.

Sorry but you are wrong, Riot Act rocks!

Anyone who would call Iron Maiden a "hair band" is an IDIOT, even calling KISS a hair band is borderline at best. As far as the OP, you don't like Riot Act, do you think anyone really gives a shit if you do or not, I think the album is just fine, there are a couple of songs I don't care for, but that is normal. I think I'm going to start a thread about how I don't like raw onions, it will be about as useful as this!
