Seats Behind the Stage

edited August 2009 in Given To Fly (live)
I fought Ticket Bastards long and hard but finally managed to get a handful of tickets to the show in Vancouver on November 25th, to my horror (or delight I hope) I discovered that they are smack behind the stage. Someone please tell me that we are not going to be glaring at a curtain all night???.

I know there must be a reason why they sell the "behind the stage" seats, however I have never experienced it..

Comments?

yup i have the same quandary about the London o2 gig - could be amazing...or really shite?? i would like to think they wouldnt sell tickets behind the stage if visibility is poor - am i being optimistic or clearly deluded in trusting in the big venues credibility....welcome to cynics corner!!
  • I think they only sell behind the stage tickets if the venue sells really well, then they go sans curtain and typical artwork. That's been the situation at those kind of shows. They did it the first time I saw them in Tampa, but now the Florida market sucks except Miami area.

But every other show I've seen Pearl Jam with seats behind the stage and sold, their stage was open for all to see.

I've been to shows where seats are behind the stage...it is completely clear...I'm pretty sure PJ wouldn't have it any other way. The shows I've been at, they are kick ass seats...like right behind the band. The problem is that you're watching them from behind. They will dedicate a song or two to you at the end of the show and turn around!

I'd imagine it's probably pretty cool in that you get a good view of the whole crowd while still being close to the band - you would really take in the whole thing... but also kind of crappy being behind them!

Definitely not the worst place to be.

its OK...your view wont be obstructed, but the sound quality isn't as good (its not terrible, just not as good) and you are looking at the bands asses all night...they do their best to give you some love and at least a song...you'll still have fun regardless no worries!
  • Dont worry at all, I sat behind the stage for Chicago 2 in 2006. It was actually a fun experience! Looking out at the crowd during the show is kind of cool, the tix are usually cheap, you can see the whole stage, and Ed does devote a little attention to the "people in the back". Have fun!

  • I sat directly behind Matt at LA1 in 2006, about 12 rows back, and it was great. Got an amazing photo of the crowd with the house lights on during Baba.

  • Hi, I sat behind stage at GM place in Vancouver for the 2003 show. It was a great place to be, as it wasn't too crowded so we could all move to the front and we had an excellent view. One person earlier remarked about having a 'band's eye view" and thats true, because Vancouver crowds are crazy! Hopefully the wave backdrop won't block any of your view, but I doubt they will even put it up at a show where there is seating behind stage.

As for myself, i've been to 50 plus PJ shows and have sat behind stage once (Portland 2000). While it was better than not being there, I told myself i'd do whatever i had to do in the future not to be behind. It's exactly what you think it is, you're staring at the back of the guys. Yes it's close and the sound is pretty good (they had special speakers aimed backwards). Actually it was fucking loud now that i think back on it. All in all, I don't recommend it but it's better than missing the show. Have fun!!
