Anyone taking the train to the Chicago shows?

I will be with my brother and my friend. It will be my 2nd time doing this, the first time being in 2005, but not for a Pearl Jam show; to visit a friend.

The round-trip fare is much cheaper than driving and we can drink without fear of being pulled over. It takes roughly the same amount of time as driving from Michigan.

cross you fingers taht there isn't a delay.

my brother came out from ohio. his train was only an hour late. the train the day before was about 23 hours late due to a derailment.

my other brother took it once and was 4 hours late

my gf took it once and she was an hour late.

amtrack sucks so bad when it comes to getting anywhere on time. such a shame because i would like to take it sometime, but i don't trust it to get me anywhere on time. on top of that, i can fly to philly for the same price as the train. fucked up.

    oh well

    good luck to you

  • From the Mil. I live a mile from the train station, so we're walking there Sunday morning and checking into the Hyatt two hours later.

Hopefully the band recognizes us for being next to zero carbon emissions and gives us the lottery seats. Add stupid winking emoticon here.

We are taking the train from Carbondale, IL to Chicago. Never been on it. Hopefully it isn't late, but we are leaving on Saturday so we have time even if it is.

But you do have me worried about being so late. I don't want to sit on the train any longer than I have to. I had considered driving to Champagne and then taking the train from there as it would be much closer to Chicago. That would reduce the risk of being late or as late. hmmmm..... decisions, decisions.

  • I'm not worried. When I took the train before it was fine.

Our train departs at 6:05 am. Plus we change time zones and gain an hour. So even if it took 8 hours which would be 2 hours late, we would be there by 1 pm. 9 hours? 2 pm. 10 hours? 3 pm. All in plenty of time.
  • bump...anyone else?
  • I'm flying to Toronto and Chicago from CT but am seriously thinking of taking the train into Philly from CT as long as I can secure some accomadations.

I am taking the Amtrak from Alton Illinois up to Chicago...I have taken the amtrak several times to Chicago and never had any delays etc...Knock on wood..I paid $44 dollars roundtrip..Although on my way back the train will be stopping in Springfield Illinois...I will be taking a charter bus from Springfield to Alton...Something about working on the railroad tracks...So, amtrak is providing a charter bus ride the rest of the way..

My wife and I are taking the train. We are catching the train in princeton illinois...so much cheaper and safer then driving even though we won't be drinking. The train station is pretty close to the hyatt and we will probably use public transportation to get to and from the show

The above is very funny considering Ben Folds wrote that song "effington" on his latest cd about effingham, admitting that he messed up and forgot the actual name of the town. sure you all know that though, being from the area and all.

Also, yeah, hopping on the train in Ann Arbor, MI, should be alright. Just took the same route last weekend for Lolla and it wasn't too bad.
  • Everything was fine. It was right on time.

Our trip from Carbondale, IL to Chicago was great! About a 10-15 minute delay right outside Union Station waiting for a coal train to get by, but right on time on the way home. This is the way to travel to Chicago. Especially considering the parking fee at the Hyatt was $48.00 per night!!

Absolutely. I'm confident we traveled the best way we could have.
