given toronto is the 4th largest city in north america i would think it will be just fine.

that's a totally different story... you definitely won't have a problem doing it. What your bill looks like in September is potentially ugly. :)

if it makes you feel any better, you'll be much better off vs us Canadians texting from the US. That's borderlne rape.

When I moved from Pheonix to Toronto, I was on verizon - until I switched to Rogers. Great reception - but you will pay huge for Roaming

I'd contact your service provider for rates. I'm from the states and heading to Toronto as well, and for mine, I can receive texts and have them count against my text plan, however, any text I send will cost $0.35 (which is higher than the $0.20/text I would pay on any messages that exceed my plan). Also, your provider may offer a service that allows you to call from your phone to find out how many texts you've sent/received so that you can track how much you're spending while you're in Toronto.

Add the National Plus plan to your verizon plan - it's $60 a month, but it's pro-rated. So if you're in Toronto for 3 days (like I am)...it comes to about $2 a day, and for those 3 days, you get something like 64 night minutes, 29 peak, and 64 mobile-mobile minutes, and if you have a blackberry - adding the data plan (also prorated, at about $2 a day) - data is free.

Just be sure to cancel as soon as you get back to the states.

Besides crazy roaming charges, watch out for the free range Moose and Polar Bears that roam the streets of Toronto while your head is down texting........

I think just to be safe, you should just use our rotary dial phones we have on the corners of each block. They have perfect reception!

If anyone tries to mug you though, you could knock them unconscious with that thing. I'd take that over texting any day.
