me neither but the critics like it. The lead actor isn't even an actor...was a movie producer.

i was just going to post this!
saw a few previews, and both my husband and i were like....eh, B movie. granted, not really my film genre in any case, but i guess it's a good surprise to see it get solid reviews. it's on the saved netflix queue. i'd see it at home, but wouldn't pay to see it in the theatre. most movies fall in that category, and even amongst some i have paid to see in the theatre, might've been better left for the netflix queue. ;)

I plan on seeing it tomorrow.. I've heard nothing but rave reviews saying the movie is an instant classic and best Sci-Fi movie in years.

It's filmed in a documentary style.. It's supposed to be political too. Takes place in South Africa where second class citizen humans are along side the aliens who are also considered second class.

many movies have been filmed in a documentary style and their previews did not give me a b-movie vibe. that said, i read the reviews and it sounds interesting, but again...just not that appealling a genre for me to spend $21 for us to go see it in the theatre. blu-ray in 6 months will suit us just fine.

do let us know what you think of it tho after viewing!

A friend who went to Comic Con said the buzz on it was killer so I have been looking forward to it ever since. The reviews have all been good. I really want to see it in the theater.

just got back from seeing District 9.

Yes, it was very good in every way. I recommend it for anyone.

Just saw it today. At first, I was not into seeing it but the H really wanted to go.

And I'm glad I did. Very good movie- excellent actually. Yes, its done in documentary style- but done very well. It leaves you thinking on what happens with the main characters, and weather there will be a sequel- definitely leaves the door open for that. And its not too sci-fi. Just the aliens make it sci-fi- but the situations are believable in that it could happen now.

District 9 is based off of the directors short film called "Alive in Joburg"- and that is based on District 6, which was a former inner city resident in South Africa in the 1970's apartheid regime. It was a forced removal of over 60,000 people.

    Thumbs up.
  • it was pretty good. probably the best original sci-fi movie of the year, star trek was really good too. it reminded me of a romero film without zombies. seems the evilest thing in the movie was human nature.

Peter Jackson is behind it. He's the dude that did such an unfuckingbelievable job with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I'm expecting that whatever he's involved with will be pretty damn good. 8-)

if you are a fan of JJ Abrams' stuff, you will probably like this movie.

Abrams could probably do wonders with this story.

I thought it was okay. Definitely not what I thought it would be, was expecting more of an explosion Alien war type movie. Movies like this justifies my distaste for humans.

this movie looks pretty terrible... based on the preview alone i bet theres some not so subtle racial commentary going on throughout the whole thing... south africa? come on jackson! shroud your agenda a little...

If you want to see Jackson's masterpiece go rent "meet the feebles" muppets on herion acting as prostitues  It is so bad it is GREAT! :)

Jackson just produced this one. I thought the film was interesting. It is a somewhat orginal plotline for a sci fi movie and i welcome that with open arms. They hype and reveiws are probably a little too high for the movie but I liked it a lot. I don't think it is a A+ movie, but I would go A-

When i see a movie i like it to challenge me to think about my life or life in general. This movie accomplishes that. As a whole we are very capable of being a despicable race.

I hope they don't make part 2. I think part of the charm of the movie is the way it is left open ended.

well considering it is written and directed by a south african, Neill Blomkamp, i dont think it has anything to do with jacksons "agenda" ... Peter Jackson is the excutive producer meaning all he did was lend his name and bankroll the thing.

I agree. I loved it. It was sad and well acted by all people I didn't recognize, which made it even better.

I don't remember what poster said the lead guy wasn't even an actor.....that's lame. At least watch it before you berate him.

    Go see it!

Most reviews have bundled it in with the new movie Moon. I want to see that now too!

    I've seen Moon.

It's not a bad movie, but i'd recommend waiting for it to come out on DVD.
