I've been putting off listening to non-Layne AIC stuff because I wasn't sure what I'd think and I didn't want to be disappointed. This is the only non-Layne song I've heard and I actually quite like it. It's got AIC all over it and the guitars are kick ass (as usual). I think their new stuff will grow on me...
“Do not postpone happiness”
(Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)
I actually DONT like that Jerry has been doing most of the singing. I think the whole point of a new singer is a new sound, to me this just sounds like Jerry solo round 3. Its still a good song but I actually think it would be more AIC'ish with Duvall singing more... i know it sounds weird.
Well I like the two songs I have heard on the new album so far. This song rocks. Only problem with "a looking in view" is that it is too long; It's still a good song though.
I said this to my friend last night...........I've prefered the two new AIC songs Ive heard to the two new Pearl Jam songs Ive heard.........yipes. I see this being a better album, but we'll soon know

It's a good riff, but I need to listen to it a couple more times to really enjoy it. It seems like it kind of meanders for a bit, which is odd as it isn't a long song. But again, it's still really good and it's hard to base your opinions on a low-quality clip and YouTube video.
I'm loving this song. "A Looking In View," was great as well, but "Check My Brain" is definitely catchier, some stations are already playing it a ton. William DuVall does a great job harmonizing and blending his voice with Jerry's, but I think he's really going to shine and stand out more in their live performances. I don't think this album is going to let me down.

I had a lot of reservations about them reforming without Layne, but after hearing the first two singles, I'm all for it. I like these singles much better than the few songs I've heard off of Backspacer.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

Heard it 3 times, twice live and at the listening party and the chorus instantly hooked me.
I always wanted to hear the dam lyrics -
California’s all right, Somebody check my brain
didn't get the 'all right' bit haha, can sleep maybe a bit easier now.
What are some of the lyrics to the Layne tribute song, which is the title track, "Black Gives Way To Blue." What was is the sound of it?
Don't think i can recall that man, a lot of the songs were just slow, heavy ploddy riffs and a lot of kinda. There were i think 2/3 acoustic songs were okay, but nothing that hit me like heaven's beside you or nutshell etc.
Better than I thought it would be. Sadly, without Layne, they'll never be the same. Coincidentally, it's way better than anything Chris Cornell has put out this decade.

I felt the same way until I saw the new PJ songs played live....they just work so much better in a live setting and ROCKED. Now I'm super stoked about Backspacer...
New AIC is sure to be amazing as well!
