There will never be another innovator like him. He invented so many advances that are part of electric music and recording. No one will ever contribute more.

    He did 2 shows every Monday night at the Iridium in NYC forever. He had some great players, really the best players, sit in with him.

    I never heard the man perform, but my first real guitar was a Les Paul and my own experiments with audio recording and magnetic tape techniques at age 7 were greatly influenced by the work of both Les Paul and George Martin, without me being aware of this fact for at least another decade. Les Paul influenced my life in ways I never could have possibly imagined even before I ever knew who he was.

    It's a sad day for rock and roll.

    A buddy of mine saw him play a few years back. Les is going on about how music has allowed him to have a fine home, etc. He says he even has "a swimming pool shaped like a guitar.......
