What is the deal with Hidden Tracks? I know they're supposed to be little surprises for fans but I hate the lenghts of silence before they start.

There good and bad. In the instance of Ipods, you gotta make another copy so you can here that particular song instead of having to wait for it.
I remember listening to Binaural and was falling asleep and Parting ways had ended and then I woke up right when the typewriter started typing. Scared the hell out of me.

I love them! They're a nice little surprise as long as you don't know about it beforehand. With all the album leaks though nowadays its hard not to know.
  • Yeah... they annoy me too... Just make a new track. but not in the way that DMB did on "Under The Table And Dreaming", either.

coolest hidden track concept was on the first x-files soundtrack. its hidden at the beginning of the disc. you put the disc in, hit play, and then rewind (or reverse manual search) to access it.

  • i just edit the song and get to the good stuff. it saves space on my mp3 player for sure. sometimes if i really like an album all split the hidden track off and burn myself a copy so i can skip right to that song if i like.

Yea thats what i usually do. I have mp3's of Master/Slave. Oh and that reminds me, on Ten Redux, they still has the long silence before Master/Slave but then they had the bonus tracks as individual tracks after it. They should have made M/S it's own track, everybody knows about it by now, and they could have put another song in the time the silence takes up.

I agree. If you want it as a surprise just leave it off the track listing, but make a separate track for it.

Haha, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has fallen victim to that ruckus. Love the album, but there's nothing worse than just hitting a deep sleep only to be interrupted by somebody smashing keys on a typewriter. I've actually banned Binaural from times that hold potential for shut eye for that reason.

I agree. They maybe made sense in the days of records when you can drop the needle where you want, but on cd, it's just a pain in the ass. Even more so if you're trying to get the copy digitally. The worst is the Hold Steady's last album. It added the 'secret' songs at the end in their own track... 3 songs crammed into one track. So annoying.

On my original japan import of 10, M/S was a separate track
