what to do in philly on an off show night- nothing well maybe eat a greasy cheese steak for the cultural aspects but then its hole up till the sun rises and thank god you made it.-
now chicago -thats another story
not enough time but.....options aplenty

stay in the loop-eat some deep dish pizza, then walk it off see the public art, the chicago cultural center bld has free maps for the over 100 public art sites in the loop, everything from murals to picasso's statue, while at the cult center ,see the biggest tiffany glass dome in the world and ck out the yates gallery -rooms from historic periods.across the street from the picasso[daly plaza]is chicago cathedral-a goth masterpiece, get on the el brown line at washington and wells for a loop tour, off at lake and clark-you wanna see a band- zappa plays zappa plus others are in town.2d city comedy is a transport hassle but doable,[theres a web site for half price theatre shows that are town and at last look saw about 20 productions from broadway to dance to ....]

for a more relaxed evening walk thru grant and millinium parks, see buckingham fountain and the bean, catch a lakefront breeze, in grant from 4 till 7 is a public dance 1st an hour lesson then a 2 hour dance ,this week featuring the foxtrot and i think the jive, buddy guy has a blues club on wabash ,free show at 6 pm, also on wabash is tamerind-an asain restaurant which for some reason says it has a dj from 6 to 11,[ i'm getting an order of yealw too phat and requesting some PJ]

me-i'm going to navy pier, yeah i know its the most visited tourist area in the midwest but i'm a tourist so listen;the stained glass museum is free ,150 works of amazing art, for 24 bucks you can sail on the tall ship windy a modern replica of a 1800's 4 masted schooner, they have a maze ,for 11 dollars stoners can get lost for hours, for 6 $ a motion simulator will take you the moon alice ,the beer garden has free bands from 5-11,[heavy on the dominican ]at 915 the chic shakesphere company has a free show[you can buy a bleacher seat for 15$]called water fools, its done on the lake-it claims -cars drive on water, heads explode in flames and a 12 foot lady glides by on a penny farthing,i have no idea what a penny farthing is and i saw the other stuff many times in the early 70's but...at 1015 fireworks wrap it up .the pier is a short 6 block walk off the red line grand st station and there is a free trolly for the near lame from the pier to the station which will have you back in the loop in minutes.

Coolest building...yes. Best beer...no. But it's not bad, and the best in the city. Although, the brewery/restaurant at Stone Brewing Co. is a much nicer place, it's not as cool as drinking in a church.
