Might be the most descriptive review I've ever read. It's a long one, so buckle in.

"Basically it’s Pearl Jam in a good mood – and I like it."

I swear there must be a gag-order because every article I've encountered has said about as much. Here is the typical article:

    "I am a reporter from [_____________] country

I have been ushered into the PJ compound along a dirt road in a warehouse somewhere in Seattle

I've heard Backspacer in its entirety

    It's upbeat

Interview with bandmembers with generalities at best

    Overall it is upbeat"

There really hasn't been any details given at all. Even that huge Billboard article doesn't go much into album detail.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
  • It's like a bad book report... I swear I've read it twenty times and I laugh harder and harder everytime.

"There are also melodic numbers such as Speed of Sound." = my favorite part.

I knew I should have read "War and Peace" instead and saved myself some time

That article makes Lukin feel like a long lasting song.
    11/6/95, 11/18/97, 7/13/98, 7/14/98, 10/24/00, 10/25/00, 10/28/00, 6/2/03, 6/3/03, 6/5/03, 7/6/06, 7/7/06, 7/9/06, 7/10/06, 7/13/06, 7/15/06, 7/16/06, 7/18/06, 10/21/06, 4/10/08, 4/13/08, 9/30/09, 10/1/09, 10/6/09, 10/7/09, 10/9/09
  • Crock of shit... typical Daily Star
Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.
  • I've had farts last longer than that article

I think that article is pretty disrespectful. The band allows you to listen to their new album, and that's all you say about it?

On one listen, I wouldn't have more to say.. seriously, I would mix up on songs. give him a break. It's not like he had the CD in his hands to sit there and critique it one song at a time. That's a lot of new music for the brain to try to organize in one continuous sitting.

But, really, the writer offered nothing new.

We already know that it's going to be upbeat, and we already know what "The Fixer", and, to a certain extent, "Speed of Sound" are like. I find it hard to believe that the writer could not remember anything from listening to it (such as what songs jump out at the listener, the different styles that are present on the album).

The article was not intended for us crazies who decipher every article like it were a clue to a buried treasure.. for 99.9% of people out there, it was more than enough info.
