    hmmm... very interesting...
Fans who pre-order the album on iTunes before the 24th of August will get a bonus live track but if you’d rather buy it on CD, you’ll also get to download two exclusive gigs. And for those of us willing to dust off the turntable, Backspacer will also be available on vinyl.

    what two 'exclusive gigs' ?
Oh yeah? Well, I've had about enough of morons and halfwits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells - and you chowderhead yokel, you blithering hayseed, you - you've had enough of me?

I'm pretty sure that if you buy the cd at Target you get a code to download two concerts out from a selection of eleven. Don't know which or from what era, but I know that I read that somewhere.

    Sounds pretty promising.
And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
    I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.

Seems rather postive. Whether it's a good review or bad one, I am always wary of someone's thoughts based on one listen alone. My favorite albums tend to take considerable time to digest in my ears. On the other hand, I do like hearing the earliest reviews of an album, before they all fall in line and echo the same sentiments a few critics from the more so-called "prestigious" magazines convey. After awhile, it ceases to be an informed opinion and regresses into mantra. So despite the fact it is never wise to take too much stock in anyone's critiques before I get a chance to hear the whole record, the giddy fan in me cannot help but be excited by these 'first impressions' on Backspacer. But the whole "return to form" rhetoric has definitely gotten stale. I've probably heard at least one reviewer toss that on any of pearl jam's work (with the exception of No Code). I remember somebody, while conducting an interview with Stone and Eddie in 2000, claimed to believe Binaural was most reminiscent of the music on Ten. Yikes! Sure, everyone's entitled to their opinion of course- blah, blah, blah. But come on, these people actually get paid to do the same crap we do everyday on this board! Don't be senseless.

Nearly every review of every PJ album after 'No Code' has been declared a "return to form." I find this kind of funny. What exactly is the definition of 'form' as it relates to PJ? And what is so wrong about PJ taking on various forms??? Critics will be the ones left selling Buicks when all is said and done.

Wow... That is the shortest and non-telling review I have ever seen :o .

I guess we can rule out that Supersonic is a "filler"... And what is it with that "new wave" influence. Second time I read this...

Devo is where the new wave thing is coming from. I like how they don't review Johnny Guitar or Amongst the Waves....
What the fuck is this world?

Pretty vague review -But promising none the less-

"Supersonic" and "Gonna See My Friend" have me pretty stoked.

I get the feeling that "Backspacer" is going to be a very diverse and varied album.
