THE FIXER
(UNIVERSAL)
THE dinosaurs of grunge rock return with a single that is relatively enjoyable but - like much of the band's post-Vitalogy material - pins all its hopes on vocalist Eddie Vedder's iconic tone.
With its subtle piano lines drowned among Mike McCready's plucking, there are elements of The Fixer that show Pearl Jam is still within its use-by date - but only just.
The single could have been mixed so much better on the bottom end, but it still rocks for the jocks.

Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
