Saw this the other night and was thoroughly entertained. Searched this site and didn't see any threads on this yet.

I have NOT read the books yet...only watched the movies (sad i know, but i'll get to it). Loved how developed the characters have become and the transition to teen years and the emotional rollercoasters. And even though it was well over 2 hours, I was a bit disappointed with the ending and how rushed it was with Snape...but i was told that's how it was in the book.

thoughts?
I love to turn you on

the book was much better. I was a bit disappointed- knowing what I know from the books. They did a good job of trying to keep the movie forward, but so much was cut out. I know, its all about the time restraints and you can't put the whole book in the movie. But a lot of the nuances of the book was lost, for me, in the movie.

It was a good try- we will see how they finish it all up with the last book.

the movie was already extremely long... seemed like it couldve ended 3 times before it did...

i really enjoyed it though (as a fan of the movies and not the books)... the characters have really matured nicely over all the films and it made for all those great, uncomfortable adolescent moments... ron and his gf

didnt think it was really great for kids... between the romance and that fuckin scary part with harry and dumbledore at the end... but i guess if theyve seen all the movies and read all the books theyre probably immune to scary black magic by now... and its been a number of years since the series started so you gotta assume alot of the fans are in their late teens/early 20s by now - perfect demographic for this movie

curious to see how it all ends - one of the nice perks to not enjoying the books :)

  • I love Alan Rickman, and was sort of disappointed that his screen time wasn't amped up for this one... the Half Blood Prince part was more like an afterthought in the movie.

also, Helena was amazing....I have renewed my girl crush.

    ugggghhhhhh

i loved loved loved the books....have not been a fan of the movies. I think the acting by the kids is just awful and the adaptation from the book is lacking so much depth. I still go see these movies in the theater, because I really WANT to like them :?

I agree, the books were much better - but I keep seeing the movies because 1. I am married to a nerd, (who bears a resemblance to Harry) and 2. Alan Rickman as Snape.

I do NOT like Ron Weasely in the movies...he actually makes me cringe.

she made me laugh when she was running through the fields at the burrow taunting harry with i killed sirius...

didnt like half blood prince. way too much teen angst.

would loved to have seen/heard some mention of dracos convos with moaning myrtle. would have made his last scene with dumbledore better imo.

the whole aragog funeral/ professor slughorn bit was weak.

    the ending was shit.

Loved the books but the films are getting worse. I found this dull.

The final book is going to be 2 films. Not sure if I can go through 5 more hours of wooden acting by the kids.

    But I will.

i have a theory on the teen angst thing - i think the success of "twilight" prompted the sort of backstory of blooming romance and longing yearnful looks into the forefront of the story.

i don't understand why anyone would want to see virgins getting mopey hormone-blooming blueballs over each other...is that what passes for sweet lately?

I don't understand it either...it's either bad writing or bad acting...or both. Twilight was the WORST teen-angsty movie ever!

i watched half blood twice, with my niece who is a teen...and she was very doe-eyed over it...it was all i could do not to smack her in the back of the head with the popcorn bucket. I felt like it missed the point of the book to have so much hormone-who should i take to the dance-crap in a movie that was supposed to be darker. each book got progressively darker, and i thought the movies should do the same. At least there was no "quiddich" my god...quiddich.

btw: watching twilight in the theatre gave me the opportunity to hear the most "OMG!" exclamations at one time in my life. i think the entire audience communicated to each other with this single phrase.

a virgin vampire is just wrong.
