    hi.
public transport is good despite the natives bitching about it. the place to drink is with me... obviously.
eat at fatimas on cleveland st, surry hills. its lebanese food. theres also this african restaurant on king st newtown which is worth your while. otherwise ill cook for you.

yes the SFS is easy to get to on foot from the CBD or by bus.

theres this hotel my daughter stays in when shes too drunk to come home. its on george st in the CBD and is costs around $A100.

if theres a decent local band playing ill show you who it is. and ill buy you a drink as we prop up the bar.

ill show you the touristy bullshit if thats your thing plus some nice walks thatll give you the lay of the land.

if im suitably medicated you can hang with me. thats no offense to you as im sure you know.

  • hi there!
i think you're from NY right? what i learned when i was in sydney is that the public transport is good but no where near NYC. i kept forgetting that you can't get a train during the wee hours of the night like you can in nyc :P also, things close at 5! i was used to going to the mall or other shops at night but you can't. and i believe you can take pictures with a koala at the taronga zoo :D
you can do a lot of things, the opera house, the zoo, circular quay, darling harbor, the rocks, bondi beach, there's the ice bar in circular quay that i went to that's -5 degrees celsius, it was pretty cool (haha no pun intended) http://www.minus5experience.com/ they provide you with coats and gloves and boots and everything's made out of ice :D

I like koala bears too, but I thought they are unfriendly?

yes, a new yorker....and i don't expect many places to have public transport as we do, nor open 24/7 as we so often are.....but yea, 5? wow. thanks for the suggestions - keep em comin' folks!

and i especially would like to find a cheap/clean hotel, centrally located if possible. i far prefer walking around as much as possible...is sydney a very walkable city? i hope so!

and yes, koalas are known to be nasty little buggers, but i am sure they get the tame ones to at least be tolerant. ;)

Koala park at Pennant Hills. Never been there but it is about 40 mins by train from Central Station. and about 10mins away from my house.

Beautiful places to the north of Sydney at Hawkesbury river

    1045008583_5a433c739c.jpg

    Harbour bridge, Opera house etc

I strongly recommend going to a place called Barnetts Reserve at Berowra to get a Similar view of Hawkesbury river (Berowra is known as a bit of a dive ) however this is a million dollar view. A further 20 mins up from Koala park, so you may like to include that in your day. My sis got married at Barnetts reseve.

Then can come back to my favourite pub the Blue Gum for a few drinks. It is in the northern suburbs of Sydney. Accommodation there too, don't know how much.

http://www.bluegumhotel.com.au/home.html Friday nights go off there.

Pub closes at 12 cause it is in a residential area. And it is close to rail. 5 mins up the road from my house.

I love Sydney.... You can just about get anywhere via transport. Though it can be a bit sluggish at times.

All the stuff I mentioned is about 1 hour form the heart of the city.

May I suggest you do the Spit Bridge to Manly walk...takes about 2.5 hours but the views of the Harbour are great. You can then catch the Manly Ferry back to the city.

plenty of places to see in sydney.

as mentioned the public transport is ok. we locals bitch about it, but it works fine, just nowhere near as many trains to the outer parts as other big cities

The SFS is 10 mins by bus from the city centre, about a 25 min walk maybe 30 (i do it nearly every day as i work right near there)

the harbour for sure, catch the manly ferry, the zoo has been mentioned, it has wicked harbour and city views as well 8-)

the Girraffes have it good

for a short first time flying visit, it is hard to go past all the big tourist spots, and then when you come back with your husband, you can do them again and more, and show off all your knowledge

the Bondi to Bronte cliff top walk is good
    2003 - Sydney x3,
    2006 - Reading Festival,
2007 - Katowice, London, Nijmegen, Rock Werchter,
    2008 - MSG x2, Hartford, Mansfield x2, Beacon Theater,
    2009 - Melbourne, Sydney,
2010 - I watched it go to fire!
    2011 - EV Brisbane x3, Newcastle, Sydney x3,
    2012 - Manchester x 2, Amsterdam x2, Prague, Berlin x2, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen,
    2014 - Sydney, EV Sydney x3

Or drive across it at peek hour. You will enjoy the view for longer!!!

Also if you are into it, check out the Olympic site at Homebush. Still gets lots of tourists. I was there watching the Mighty Bulldogs beat the Rabbitohs on Sunday, and had time to reflect on the short history of the Stadium there. That is if you are a keen sports nut like me.

    Hahaha :D

I actually ran from the city to a mates at North Sydney last weekend...in the sun....and along the bridge. To be honest I was surprised how long it was. Reckon two kms.

Once I get over that I realised I still had the hill up to Crows Nest

Yes and also as mentioned above....the Bronte to Bondi walk is great too....just short. If you run it in the morning you will see some of the best female bums in Australia. I was doing it a few years ago and was just about to pass a young redhead with a 10/10 bum. Realised it was Borats missus so I dropped back to 1st gear and enjoy the 'oceans' views for the next km. :o

If you are gonna do the beaches...dont get involved in the Bondi hype. There is jack shit to see there and its a terrible beach...only famous for its proximity to the city. Do Manly instead
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.
