matt, jack, and me
when i first heard jack irons around "no code" or "merkinball it was like instantaneous "holy shit" at first listen, there is some kind of funky-spirit-mythos-africana-new world agey-ironzy sound that he makes on his drum kit and if you ever got to hear him live or on bootlegs, he made songs like "last exit" - pop out and take a new dimentions.
i could feel the bands music take a deep trancelike turn and on "yield " and i think jack's influence helped the band produce the most underrated amazing album yet. now, when i heard matt around binarual, it was like seeing a really cute girl ( i know its a mixed homoerotic metaphor but stay with me), getting to meet her, things go fairly well, you like her - but the chemistry to date or give up your freedom just isnt there, you want to like her, she's right on paper ,even looks tempting, but something is missing??? what??? ......but over the years the more you talk with her and the more you share time around mutual friends then one day, maybe years down the road... it hits you - blam - and out of nowwhere you totally love that woman.
well - folks - i have been warming-up to my friend matt for years, now the metaphor ends here because i dont think of matt in a lustful way ,
but and when i heard "got some" live and then the studio "fixer" - guess what..."holy shit allover again".i love the new turned-up matt sound - he's got the funkykickpunch and not the hard-hit-wierd-thwart-a-song-vibe offtime stuff......or if he does it finally works in these songs.... all of the sudden i dont listen to pj and kind of miss jack anymore...i think for me matt just became 100% pure pj to me... maybe he was like 98% before this year (except on "undone" love that sound )- "got some" was a great example ....side note i always have liked the song with Ed vocals on Wellwater Conspiracy called "felicity's suprise" - so i knew i could like him more than i did ...and i always appreciated how technically amazing he was, but the drum sound just didnt inspire me or fit quite right (for me) - until now. he is going to f'ing light backspacer on fire. i know most of you are way ahead of me with mr. cameron but i always thought jack was unreplaceable for my taste in pj sound. Brendan might be a big part of this too, i admitt. cheers.

he's been my main inspiration ever since.
I was then excited to hear his performance on Binaural, but he was laid back and the production wasn't very hard hitting in itself. SO I've been waiting to hear him on record produced by Brendan O'brien, and now we have it. It's going to fuckin rock. I think this will be the best pearl jam album since Vitalogy.

But I've come here tonight to announce that I. Gmoney a loyal Yield head, also think that Binaural is a perfect album. It took me one more summer to decide it but its true. Binaural is an equal to Yield. So Matt Cameron is just as good as Jack Irons. They too, are equal, in their own unique and beautiful ways. Jack and Matt, thank you both, for Yield and Binaural.
good point - if the production of binaural had been a bit "warmer" and the b-sides included i might have to reconsider - i had forgot about education, sad, and all night......hmmmm....maybe i have always loved him afterall......god the wasted years.....
Then I realized I don't know a fucking thing about drums......
Hail, Hail Matt Cameron...........
