I love talking about movies, I'm not a movie buff but its still fun. Also, I'm gonna have a large bias towards post-1980 movies because i'm 29. Anyways, here goes. Topic one, what is the greatest action sequence of all time?

Two way tie in my opinion:

Braveheart: Battle of Stirling. No CGI, all real people. No wonder Gibson won the best director Oscar. Just epic.

Saving Private Ryan: Opening sequence. Surprise, surprise. The studio set up a hotline for veterans who had flashbacks due to this. To me this is just amazing filmmaking.

Last of the Mohichans- The end scene fighting their way up the mountain. I can watch that a million times and still get into it. The music is great and the scenary is wonderful. One my favorite scenes in any movie ever.

Mel Gibson (Sgt. Riggs) asking Gary Busey (Mr. Joshua) if he would like a "shot at the title" in Lethal Weapon
The battle in the nebula between the U.S.S. Enterprise and the U.S.S. Reliant in Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan
"Swing away, Merrill....swing away" from Signs
The dancing hamburger, to Van Halen's "Everybody wants Some", from Better Off Dead

The Fugitive - Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones on the dam
  • The Private Ryan opening was amazing to watch...

The ending scene of Usual Suspects when everything comes together.

In Tombstone when Doc Holiday shows up for the duel.

I liked the scene in 25th Hour where Ed Norton's character goes through all of the different types of people that he hates.

There are a couple of scenes in Schindler's List that are very powerful.

Goodfellas, the "funny guy" scene... classic Pesci

There are probably so many more that I am forgetting.

i was just about to say that. such a great scene. since my Dad passed, the whole father/son dynamic really gets to me. it always has, but now it's different. Big Fish really gets to me as well. the dream sequence at the end when he takes his Dad to the river.

The ending scene of Schindlers list, with the 'Schindler Jews' dropping rocks on his grave is one of the most powerful scenes I've ever seen.

I agree with the Field of Dreams moment.

Also - the end of Cinema Paradiso.

The De Niro on the roof sequence in Godfather II (I guess that's not really a moment).

the little girl in the red coat. at the time i was so angry at spielberg for doing that.

oh for me the movie scene is in the last starwars film when they lowered the vader helmet over anakins head and we all waited for that first breath... it closed a circle for me that had been open since 1977.

also the flying bicycle scene in ET.

My favourite scene in that movie was any one featuring Eddie Murphy as the Jewish guy!
