This morning on Fresh Air (NPR radio show) John Seabrook from The New Yorker was talking about concert tickets and scalping. He mentioned Pearl Jam and ticketmaster's fight in the mid 90s. It was really an interesting story. I know the ticket prices for this tour are higher then ever before but this story made me realize we are still extremely luckily to have the 10c. The link is below if you are interested but the audio won't be posted until later.

There's a lot to be said for nowhere...

• I am listening now. The guest is not 100% accurate regarding his history of PJ and Ticketmaster. The segment does, at least, further illuminate the greed with which Ticketmaster operates.

Talking of scalping...

Below is an email after I tried to get tickets for the Shepherd's Bush gig in London via a guy on Gumtree. It's an intimate show and I missed out via 10c, HMV pre sale and Ticketweb general sale. He wanted £480 ($US820) for 4 tickets, I wanted 1 or 2 tickets and would have paid equal price...It's becoming an absolute nightmare to get a ticket if you are a genuine fan. Luck comes down to it about how good your internet connection is most of the time, if that sucks then you have to resort to the following:

Hi mate.
I will gladly be willing to buy one ticket for £120 if it is a standing ticket.
Please email me on xxx@hotmail.com or call me on 07xxxxx and I can come to you and pick it up if you are in London.
Cheers...Andy

Scalper
i am sorry but i can't sell you just one ticket
thank you anyway

Me
No worries mate.
What about two then for £240? Would that be ok or are you still wanting to sell four in one go?
Cheers.

sorry but i am not prepared to split the tickets up,i already have offers for all 4 tickets
thank you anyway

considering that the ticket limit was 2 per order, I call fake tickets on this one (esp as the eBay ones are going for twice the price).

And I have a very good internet connection (15M real speed) and could do jackshit about SBE (but found my luck amongst the good people of the community).

This show should have been fan club only, or at least like The Who one at the O2 Indigo last year, ticketless.

Agreed. It is very strange that people can order four tickets. Like I have said on another post somewhere on the same topic, how can you report these sons of bitches? I will head down to SBE on Tuesday but I WON'T pay more than a certain amount. I can see it being a very disappointing evening (unless you are actually inside the Empire!)
