Trying to figure out where to Honeymooon in the US. We don't want a big city ala NYC or LA

just wondering it seems we have narrowed it down to Hawaii, San Diego or North Carolina

what do you think based on real life travel experiences to these places.

your $ would go much further in SD or North Carolina, that's for sure. But Hawaii is absolutely beautiful....
then again, SD & NC are beautiful as well. tough call. i think i'd go w/ SD.

I have been to all 3 places and if you can afford it, Hawaii all the way. I went there on my honeymoon in 2006 and had a blast. I spent 10 days there and my wife practically had to drag me kicking and screaming onto the plane to leave. I have wanted to go back since but we decided kids were first on the agenda. Now we have a 2yr old and one on the way so Hawaii isn't an option for a while. Do me a favor, go for me and have a great time. :D

my vote is for hawaii... NC has some great beaches and golfing, SD has great beaches and nightlife... but i dont think you can beat the romance and total package of HI... and when are you gonna get another chance to go out there? theres plenty of non honeymoon related reasons to do SD and NC... great weather and lots to do at all 3 though so you really cant go wrong

Hawai'i, for sure. You don't have to go to a touristy pary of Hawai'i.

    Seriously. Hawai'i. I'm not kidding.

Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

2000 more pics where these came from. When I went to SD I took about 250. NC shouldn't even be in the discussion. Frankly when you have Hawaii in the running neither should SD.

Just got back from Hawaii on Friday- and I 'll tell ya- its the way to go. The weather was perfect and it was not so crowded this time around. A lot of people are not traveling and the hotels are hurting. I Pricelined a 4 star hotel for $100/night and got the Hyatt (good room- not the best view, but eh- make sure that you don't have a room near the elevator).

That was my second time in Hawaii- and I would move there if I had the money.

I was on Oahu. I have a Hawaiian friend friend and her parents have a beach house in Punaluu- right by the beach- almost empty of tourists- it was great. The water was a bit cool- almost cold- the weather was just weird. That part of the island is cooler than the south or east. For the most part, it was not hot or humid- just perfect! 6 days there and then 4 days in Waikiki. Waikiki was ok- lots of tourists- but not as much as when I went Jan of last year. Not a ghost town (as some of the locals think), but tourism was definitely off.

definitely worth it renting a car- you can go around the island in a couple of hours. Plenty of things to do and see-

Would have loved to go island hopping this time- but I'm 7 months pregnant and was already pushing it going there in the first place.

There's no comparison to Hawaii, so like others have said, if you can afford it then do it.

Otherwise, for a honeymoon I'd say NC. The beaches at Wrightsville Beach are so clean and you can relax, watch the sunrise over the ocean, then watch the sunset over the inlet as the dolphins go by. Figure 8 island is next door, very private and equally wonderful (not that it makes a difference, but it's such a nice area that several famous types bought houses on these beaches - Leo DiCaprio, Alec Baldwin, Michael Jordan). Atlantic Beach is more for active/party crowd, Emerald Isle is for people who like it really quiet, Anon has wild horses on the beach,... and then there's all those lighthouses, if you're into that sort of thing...

just remember about hurricane season... the biggest storms *usually* hit between late August and September

Hawaii. No questions! Went there in 2006 and it was AWESOME. and yes, if NOT being touristy is your goal, you can accomplish that. Consider going to one of the other islands other than Maui, and Oahu.

Kauai is beautiful, absolutely stunning. However, I've heard traffic there is a constant mess. I loved Hawaii when I went. Rented a condo along side the beach. Those sunrises are one of a kind.
