Good read here. We are already screwed in regards to ticket prices but it's going to get much worse if the merger is allowed to happen.

I find it amazing that LiveNation is losing money!
And so you see, I have come to doubt

It's because they are over paying the artists with those outrageous 360 deals. And now we have to pay the price with higher fees. Hopefully this does not pass through the anti-trust segment of the judiciary system.

My belief is that in the near future all tickets will only be available by auction. They already do it for charity, what's stopping them from doing it for profit. This will cut down on the secondary market but kill the modest consumer.

Very good article though, thanks for sharing.

It would suck in general, but I don't see a problem with an auction.

I mean tickets will go for market value. The artist will reap the benefit.

And although it will bad to be stuck in the back rows, perhaps those tickets will be much cheaper?

Eliminating the ticket scalpers would be great. Now if we could eliminate the biggest scalpers of them all (ticketmaster and Live nation) that would be even better.........

The consumer will always determine whether or not these mergers succeed. The problem right now is that the big arena shows aren't selling out, or getting anywhere close. There's a great piece on how the last-mnute ticket buyers are scooping up tix for shows like Springsteen and Coldplay for $1 because there's no demand due to the outrageously high prices.

I honestly feel like the ticket business is no different than the stock market/auto industry, etc.. The pendulum can only go so high before it comes back down again.

I truly believe that people (hopefully) will say enough is enough at a certain point. The people really do have the power if we could only be disciplined to say no to outrageous prices.
