Shouldn't we have heard something by now? I'm specifically going to night two, and would be fine with Liam Finn again.

Right!!! WTF is up with this? I know it doesn't really matter, but I am just kind of curious. My hopes are no openener and just "An Evening With Pearl Jam". I'm thinking BH & R7 which is cool, but at this point a little disappointing seeing that in my head I've been thinking of the no opener possibility.

I think it's probably because of BH's contractual obligations to stay out of Chicago for a certain period of time pre- and post-Lollapalooza, and that perhaps once Lollapalooza's occurred, we'll find out.

I'm starting to buy in to this theory. BUT, this doesn't explain the lack of an opener for the Toronto show...

Well, Toronto's going to have to be an epic show then
Or maybe they figure if they announce BH as the Toronto opener, people would realize the same would happen for Chicago? Not sure how much sense that makes though :?

  • i thought i read on here that the drive-by truckers were opening(or at least there was speculation, obviously nothing official)...I thought that anybody that played at lollapalooza can't play chicago for a certain time period prior to the festival and after the festival so that would rule out BH as he is playing lollapalooza, which would also eliminate the kings of leon(i think the days of kol opening for pj are over since they finally are getting some love in the states), i see alice in chains are touring, i wouldn't mind that

I contacted DBT's management and they flat-out said they will not be opening for Pearl Jam in Chicago. Of course, this means nothing, as they would be under instructions from the band not to tell anyone if they were. I can't understand what the purpose behind waiting this long to announce an opening band unless it was either no one, or someone contractually bound to Lolla like Ben Harper.

just read an article in the chicago tribune about lollapalooza and it says that artists have a radius clause that an artist can't play the chicago area for 90 days before or after the fest. the only exception are lolla afterparty shows that C3 sponsors so I doubt we get ben harper unless PJ worked that into their clause for doing ACL...we'll see in the next three weeks.

Don't forget Pearl Jam played the Vic Theatre the night before they played Lollapalooza - clearly, exceptions can be made... a non-compete agreement isn't really the biggest issue once the show has already occurred - no more competition to be had.

that show is part of the lolla weekend shows. there's about a dozen of them around the city that weekend and those are only approved directly by C3...any little club shows THAT WEEKEND are ok..nothing before or after.
