  • It's a hell of a song, no question about it. Best of the album.
"Bombs dropping down. Please forgive our hometown"
  • Absolutely beautiful song. It, along with the "I know someday you''ll have a beautiful life" bit of Black always make me think of my brother who died. I really hope they play it at SBE or the O2, but I may, as I did when I first heard it, burst into tears if they do.

So if you see a grown man crying during this song, it'll be me...

I adore this song. It gives me the creeps when his voice gets so deep. And the lyrics are absolutely beautiful.
For me it's not only the best of the Avocado album but in fierce competition for one of the best PJ songs.
You can spend your time alone, re-digesting past regrets,
Or you can come to terms and realize
You're the only one who can't forgive yourself

    If I keep holding out
    Will the light shine through
    Under this broken roof
Its only rain that I feel...

not sure how anyone can not enjoy this nugget.
  • It came out when my husband was in Iraq, so I instantaneously connected with it. There were so many people on these boards saying they hated it- I couldn't understand it! I love that song.
  • Thanks for reminding us of this beautiful song from a great album.
I think anyone who has lost someone in their life will find this song a real heartbreaker. I had the extreme good fortune to see PJ play this at little Irving Plaza, and you could feel the sadness coming off the strings of McCready's guitar.

Definitely one of my top 5 favorite PJ songs. Check out the version from DC last year.....it still gives me the chills every time I listen to it.
