He goes on to insist he can't play the guitar properly: "But I can figure out how to make a sound - strangle it until a song comes out."

ed whatever sounds you strangle sound great to me!

Its great to be affected by a band as a child and then grow up to find everyone in the band is a class act. I've met Mike, Ed and Matt and they all genuinely want to listen to what you have to say. Ed even gave my friend and I EV guitar picks. Mike has always been happy to sign something and have a short conversation. And Matt is just a cool ass mofo. Thank you Pearl Jam for being so cool to your fans.
  • Great article, but I don't like the insinuation that the last 2 albums weren't good.
  • a return to form! not like (insert last album here).

i remember this same article since Yield. heheh

    Nice article.

I really liked the part when Ed mentioned the young girl he was rude to and how it still effected him today.

It is pretty amazing at how humble and "real" the guys are. Then again that's probably why they are still together after all these years!

He isn't saying that he personally dislikes their last two albums, he was referring to the overall critical reception of them. Although their self-titled seemed to be much better-received than Riot Act by the critics.

It is strange b/c almost every review it seemed of Avocado said it was their best since the Vitalogy...or at least the best since Yield and now it seems to be getting trashed a little and people have forgotten all the good reviews it got. Strange.

It didn't hold up well... poor production, awful compression, and a few songs that wore thin quick. It sounded like a roaring return to form at first, but song-wise, it just didn't last.

That pretty much sums up my thoughts on Avocado, 3 years later...
